I'll say it again, it's justified in the sense that you have the opportunity to make multiple moves this summer that we did NOT have before we made the trade. I mean, how endlessly did we discuss how important it was to trade Jeffries? Remind yourself WHY it was important? That's your answer.

Put another way, you can't look for justification in retrospect. Why sit here now and use one possible outcome as the prime justification for the trade? You're saying, IF we don't get a FA, then it wasn't worth it. Well, yeah, duh but we don't know that yet. That's why you make the trade: to give yourself the chance of something else happening. More cap space can only help.

DITTO: The trade as I see it is this: we traded the rights to
obtain a franchise player through the draft in 2012 plus Jordan Hill for the right to ontain one this offseason. We may luck out and not get one, that same possibilty exists in the draft. Here at least we control some of the chips. In the draft we cross our fingers an pray.

Yeah the draft has been a lock to turn around every fanchise that got the top pick! The draft is as shaky as FA Market if not more. Draft is great If you get a Shaq, Duncan, Kobe, Wade to win a title or you can try to grab a bunch of really good players a la Boston or to a lesser degree Detroit.

We could also go after young talent like Gay. Try to pick off guys that haven't peaked or are on teams with too many guys to pay. We could still get considerably better while holding cash for 2011. The guys we have left are really young so there's no rush to spend every dime if we strike out with the big dog FA's.

if we gave up Jordan Hill, swap rights & our 2012 pick so we can sign Joe Johnson & re-sign Lee, was this trade really justified?

No, it's certainly all in. Hope Donnie made a good read before placing this bet. But I like the odds so I am down with the plan. Lebron only comes around once in his prime. You can't pass it up if your the NYK. Like Donnie said, we have flexibility now, which is a shyteload more than we had the last couple of years. Let's make a team and stop crying over Jordan Hill or some chump in 2012 who MIGHT has skillz.

Because he is going all in on Lebron. That's the smart play I think. 2011 is a backup plan. He's just saying we aren't locked into contending for a chip in 2010. It's possible, but not imperative.

No sense thinking we will get lucky in the draft if we have a bonafide shot at he King this summer. What's better is there are many other options if Lebron signs an extension with the Cavs.

i love the way you make reason of the fact we're throwing away draft picks like they're useless commodities that aren't worth holding onto... i wonder how you would have felt if someone had suggested we give up our #8 lottery pick & 2 future picks just to dump Fishlips' contract a month ago? i'm all for going after Lebron but i think we paid a huge price to gain that cap flexibility, & sorry but i don't share your viewpoint that draft picks are no big loss, they most certainly are especially w/the history this franchise has had in recent years of giving away picks that ended up being good players at the NBA level, much less guys that were picked after those guys who would have been available to take as well... this is absolutely not a no brainer deal that Donnie Walsh made, it's a huge gamble & only a fool would look at it otherwise.
