not necessarily true. if we can get two max guys - then yes, we'll renounce all their rights. BUT, we don't have to renounce their rights until July 9th. we should know by then if we're getting two max guys. if not, i have a feeling they'll bring back Sergio, House and David Lee and maybe even Tmac and sign one max guy. we'll see. but the notion that these guys are all 30 game rentals and nothing more may not be accurate.

Don't their cap #'s change if you resign them for less?

So if McGrady really did want to stay, rather than renounce you would resign him for $4.5m and then that would be his #, not the $23m it is now, or will be once he is a free agent.

Yes. At the beginning of FA his cap number will be $23. If he is resigned for 4.5M his cap number becomes 4.5M. Same with the others.

it's funny tho, our rooks are customarily called trash after not even playing 30 games & we got guys high on the Sergio Rodriguez's of the world... just doesn't make much sense to me.

Yea,it is called the "grass is greener syndrome".. A lot of knicks fans are infected and have been for years... Not saying in this case with enyspree, but in general..

he's a guy that myself, eny and finestrg have been pining for, for a while. i think sergio bring alot to the table and he's never played more than 15.3mins a game and i think part of the reason was that his style of play was the direct opposite of the way that nate mcmillan wants to play up there in portland. then he went to sacto where they already have ty evans so he wasn't going to play there.

i think here, he'll have the freedom that his game relies and i think he'll play pretty well, how well? i guess we'll see, but i think he'll do well here.

Sergio is a significant upgrade over Duhon. But He was available for a trade exception, maybe a second rounder.

Sergio is a perfect fit for any team. A shortish, tallish, heavy-set, thin PG.

Plus... he is my friend from Rio.

Sergio Rodriguez is a career 4 ppg, 3 apg player. He can't be as bad as Chris Duhon but let's wait and see.

He's averaging 6 pts 3 assists this year on like 12 minutes a night.

24 and 12 baby.

sounds like Sergio will get a chance here:
Beyond the cap space and the Tracy McGrady audition, Sergio Rodriguez became the unexpected bonus in the Knicks deadline deal.

Not coincidently, he's also an Arn Tellem client.

Had the Knicks stuck with the two-team trade with Houston, they would still have been stuck with the same-old point guard situation. Now Rodriguez will be given every opportunity to start and replace Chris Duhon.

Rodriguez also is a restricted free agent with a low qualifying offer and cap hold, and could conceivably be retained. Remember, there is no other point guard in the Knicks organization.

D'Antoni wants to run more now with the new blood – which is more Rodriguez's forte.

"That would be the conventional way of thinking,'' D'Antoni said of starting Sergio. "We'll see a lot of him. I don't know yet if it's at the beginning, middle or end. But after 29 games, we'll have a good beat on Sergio.''

As far as whose better running the speedball system, "Chris was pretty good at it when we had Zach (Randolph) and Jamal (crawford). Sergio can run. We'll see.''

Will PLEASE finally give up on this chump and head in a new direction? I would like to see MDA demonstrate that he can modify his approach to suit reality.

Guys have come in the league and take it by storm for you guys to appreciate a talent. I'm hoping Sergio can prove he can play this game and become our pg.

Sergio is a "poor man's" Rubio. He was a good pick-up and will get a chance to play. He needs to become more consistant.

Yeah, that is what I noticed. This guy does not seem lighting quick at all. But he does seem to have a good handle, is not afraid to drive to the hole, and looks like an above-average passer. I have no doubt he is an upgrade over Duhon. The only question is whether he can be a starting pg on a contending team.
