yes, that's the reasoning... FA's can sign a 6 year w/their respective teams before a deal is made... still, that cap space does us nothing in that scenario because you will have to throw in some useful assets to get deals like that done & absorb contracts, teams aren't just gonna throw us Lebron James & D Wade for the hell of it in S&T's... now we have no picks in the next 2 years to deal & we just gave away our lottery pick from '09... so unless we sign guys like Lebron, etc. in free agency, there was zero point in making these trades to begin with... basically, we're completely fugged if the only way to get Lebron & co. is through S&T's
