I know what you're saying about Spree being a SG....but...reality is that he played SF for us. So, Sprewell it is.

It can't be Larry Johnson either because he played PF for us. He may have been a SF to some degree, but, he played PF for us, and once he did he really did look like a PF out there.

So then I guess we're left with Anthony Mason. What a big front line that was. They would get torched in today's NBA though I think. Big, slow, bulky. They'd get run around.

I would be very surprised if Gallo was still playing SF in a few years.

LJ was already grounded by back problems but Mase was at his peak here.

Loved Mase........ Played in a pick up game with him on Tillary St in Brooklyn when he was playing in Turkey..

Mad handles for a guy that size.....

Would of called him more a PF but he did play SF for sure....

Great Pick..... Grand Ma Ma for sure played PF for us though..
Sprewell was playing SF then

He was a freak of nature. Give him some more range on his J and he would have been a true legend. In his prime he could have played D at almost every position, played point-forward on offense, and been one of the top rebounders on a team. AtADD to that a great deal of toughness, and you have one of the more special players we've ever had on the Knicks.

Didn't LJ play much more SF than PF? He was always behind either Oakley or Camby at PF, at least until Ewing's knees disintegrated.

LJ was our power foward and even center about 95% of the time, once we got Sprewell. Before that, he played both the 3 and 4. I will always think of him as our 4 who always guarded the opponents best big man, as Ewing was declining. He always played Tim Duncan great also.

I would give the best sf title to both Sprewell and Mason.

Ariza is the answer to every question this week.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Louis Orr!

Actually this thread raises a good point. We really haven't had a solid SF. We've slotted a lot of other guys in to fill the position.

Sprewell was a second SG that we put out there - he was regularly overmatched, gave up size, height, etc and I think more than held his own.

LJ? He started life as a PF.

I think you're really looking at Chandler - he is a true SF, and might be the best true SF we've had since King.

Mason just because I loved his grittiness, hands, dribbling... the guy was rock solid.

Good point. We had one very good small forward, but he was past his prime when he came here. Kiki Vandeweghe. (Also, he didn't play much d.)

And you could add Glenn Rice to the list of SFs we've had that were past their prime.

Best Knick SF since Bernard King?

Sprewell was a SG btw so he does not count.....

Spree played the small forward for NY because the physically bigger guy Alan Houston was too much of a wus to guard anyone one on one.

Say what you want but Spree (the better all around player) sacrificed for years playing out of position guarding the opposing teams best player.

I hate the fact that MSG (TV) acts like Spree never wore a Knick uni but, we get constant Alan Houston on fans most wanted all the time. As if Alan's was the top Knick selling jersey at the time.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

I don't think Chris Mills has been mentioned. Also, Monty Williams and Anthony Bonner if you are just throwing out namesof guys who started at the three. Tony Campbell was supposed to start at the three but he was 'not in coach Gundy shape.'

Johnny Newman was a pretty good 3 and he kept Kiki on the bench.

I agree...he looks VERY good at this point in his young career.

The ankle is no longer a problem for him it looks like. And he looks light years ahead of that first ten game stretch. That alley oop he caught and one handed stuff was what about 12 feet above the court?
