I dont think you're right about that, but there are other capologists around here who can better answer 208...

They're right, you post a lot, dun. Are you really Eritrean, tho?

I know. I went on a posting binge from last night into today. I got stuck, my bad.

I think both of those deals will be moved before the trade deadline NEXT year. For now we are stuck with them. The savings from a buyout are not worthwhile, especially considering that they are valuable as trading chips next year.

Pretty much, but I still think JJ should have interest around the league from teams looking for a versatile defender.

I think it has more to do with GM's not wanting to help New York out more than anything else.

JJ is one of the worst players in the NBA. There is going to be no interest in him at 7 million per season. Ariza and Artest got the same type of deal and both are better defenders. They also have good offensive skills as well. I wish there were a way to move him, but the guy can't even make layups on a game to game basis.

Knicks should do anything to get as much of Eddy's cap # reduced as possible. He seems frustrated about playing time. If thats the case Knicks should by him out for all the money he's owed this year and start the bidding at $3mm for next year. That would let Eddie rehab his knee and join a team in time for the playoffs. If he is healthy he's betting he will sign a big contract next year.

Obviously thats not likely but if we could get him to take $6mm for next year he would break even with if another team gives him the MLE.

I think if we cant do that then we just hang on to him and try to use his expiring contract in a trade over the summer.

If we told Curry that we would pay him the remainder of his 09-10 salary and $8 mill on his contract option today, I think he takes it. One, he can go do what he wants now and go to another team. Two, he should be able to command $2-$3 million in a 1-2 year deal if he can get his fat butt into shape and have a good workout for a team. Despite all his flaws, the guy is still probably a top-15 talent in terms of scoring in the post. Someone will take a short term risk on him. So, Curry could have his freedom and most of his money.

Curry is worth more as an expiring contract next year. No buy out.

the contract is on our books for the full length of the deal no matter if we buy him out or not... there are no benefits to buying out a player unless you're looking to save on luxury tax payments... this is why a buyout should always be the last option u ever consider.

I gotta agree with you here. Unless you are totally strapped for player spots-and we are not with Cuttino's spot soon to open up and Hughes' possible buyout-keep Curry, banish him until you can trade him and JJ's $20 mil in expirings for a superstar next year (Carmelo anyone?)

Thing is he has a player option for next year. If you buy out his option so that he doesn't exercise it, I'm not sure whether that gets on the books or not.

the maximum amount u can buy out an option year for is half the value... so basically he'd have to be willing to leave $5.5 million on the table to get that option off our cap, which isn't happening.
