I doubt he takes less money JUST to play for the NYK. Now if we land Lebron, I am sure he will consider the Knicks @ six years for a bit less money, $68mil back-loaded or some such. Part of the cred a player attains during his career is tied to how much he got paid. No matter how good David becomes, if he isn't paid top dollar, he will never be a top guy.

That said, he will neve be a top guy anyway, because he doesn't play a lick of D. Tonight was a perfect example. He's basically a bystander who occasionally swats a ball loose. But he is no threat. Slashers on other teams just love it when David is down low because they know he will move out of their way.

I think Lee stays but NJ is the major threat to take him away. He clearly wants to be in NY so going to NJ allows him to still do that if the money is right, but obviously his first preference will be the Knicks especially if they sign a star, and i think he will stay with very little doubt.

who's the source? sly fox? y'all are living in fear and denial.

there is no telling who will come after david lee and for how much. so don't dismiss any team or any price. he could be a knick, he could be a piston, he could be a thunder, he could even be a net...don't be scared. if he leaves, he leaves.

Doesn't the new NYet owner change the outlook of the team?

They are two years from the new arena and they might not want to make a splash too soon. Maybe the smart thing is to keep laying an infrastructure with youth and then look a year or two down the road to coincide with the move.

Lebron in Newark is not gonna work but Dwight and CP3 in Brooklyn would.

Lee and Brook Lopez seem like an awesome frontline.

Lopez provides the shotblocking lee lacks. Both will hit the board like beasts. Lee passes well for a big man so he wouldn't be a blackhole down low. Apparently the Nets love Yi to the point where they're emphasizing getting him the ball at Lopez' expense.

Don't see them needing to pay Yi and Lee though..

Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

Thunder notebook: David Lee in OKC?
BY MIKE BALDWIN, Staff Writer, mbaldwin@opubco.com The Oklahoman

Knicks forward David Lee sometimes is mentioned as a possible piece to add to Kevin Durant, Jeff Green and Russell Westbrook. Does Lee, a free agent in the ballyhooed 2010 class, feel he would fit in Oklahoma City?

"Any team that has cap space, you have to give thought to,” Lee said. "I got to spend time with all of three of them last summer at the Olympic camp in (Las) Vegas. They’re all good guys. I’ve known Jeff a couple of years. Anytime you have exciting young players, it would be a fun place to play.”

Even though Oklahoma City will be $14 million under the salary cap, Lee, who led the NBA in double-doubles last season and is averaging 19.1 points and 10.9 rebounds, realizes Thunder general manager Sam Presti’s long-term plan.

"They’re probably saving the Brinks truck for those three guys,” Lee said. "At this point there’s so much still to be seen. I’m just concentrating on helping this team, which can do some good things, then see how everything pans out this summer.”

face it guys, D Lee's gonna have plenty of great options this summer, he's playing himself into a big contract & he can still catch on w/a very talented team like the Thunder & still collect the big bucks... that midwest fanbase will absolutely love David Lee & he'd be a perfect fit next to Westbrook, Green & Durant... if the Knicks aren't prepared to pay market value for his services, they better be prepared to lose him.

The Nets would be wise to go after Lee and then trade Devin Harris+picks for Chris Paul

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

what's the differenct between $14M in OCK and $10.5M in NYC with all of the other avenues of money and exposure?

Also, DLee has repeatedly said he wants to stay in NY.

exposure? have u seen David Lee starring in any Nike ads in Times Square since he's been here? please... the guy can barely get enough recognition to make the Allstar team this year even tho he's been putting up stellar numbers... watch ESPN these days, do u see David Lee being featured at all?

u speak as if the difference between $14 mil per & $10.5 mil per is chump change... over the span of 5 years that's a huge difference you're talking about... if a team comes at him with a 5 year $60 mil type offer i don't see anyway we would be able to keep him unless we match it or come damn close... no one's leaving no $20 million dollars on the table.

both Lee's and Nate's jersey sales are top 15 in the league last year. That's called exposure. Knicks merchandise sales last year were #3 in the league and they sucked ass. That's exposure. And $.

who cares, it's about the exposure. If Lee was selling jerseys last year, image what other types of products he could push. No way that same type of opportunity happens in OKC.

so here is one table I was looking at:

2008-09 MOST POPULAR JERSEYS (thru Jan.)
TOP 15 PLAYERS TEAM
1. Kobe Bryant Los Angeles Lakers
2. Kevin Garnett Boston Celtics
3. LeBron James Cleveland Cavaliers
4. Chris Paul New Orleans Hornets
5. Allen Iverson Detroit Pistons
6. Pau Gasol Los Angeles Lakers
7. Paul Pierce Boston Celtics
8. Dwyane Wade Miami Heat
9. Derrick Rose Chicago Bulls
10. Nate Robinson New York Knicks
11. Steve Nash Phoenix Suns
12. Dwight Howard Orlando Magic
13. Ray Allen Boston Celtics
14. David Lee New York Knicks
15. Carmelo Anthony Denver Nuggets

With the above, you can't tell me that NYC does not hold a market for better exposure and greater $ earning potential for players than in other cities.

Data is a little old but still relevant.

I agree. He is a fan favorite but I doubt if he is going to be in any national commercials anytime soon except for ESPN.

excellent. Explain the jersey sales. And convince me that OKC is a better/same city for marketability over NYC.

jersey sales accounts for the popularity of the Knicks' franchise... what does this have to do w/D Lee's marketability as an individual player tho? do u see him in any commercials hocking Big Macs, American Express, Gatorade or the latest Air Jordans? where is he reaping the benefits of this enormous exposure that he's getting playing in NYC exactly? jersey sales is the best you can come up with? does he even see any of that money? how about you convince me that he's going to leave $20 million dollars on the table just so he can stay in NY while he barely gets any recognition from the national press as it is if he has a chance to go play in OKC instead & be on a damn good talented young team on the rise that just handed us our asses last nite.

Even here, Lee copped to the fact that they are probably going to save their money to re-sign their core guys as opposed to breaking the bank for Lee. Face it, I dont see to many teams out there tripping over themselves for Lee. He has more value here...
