nah blob, he wants to be on a winner. he doesnt think memphis is one. think about it, if you were on the knicks for the past few years and experienced all the losing and negativity would you want a place like memphis for a fresh start or...let's say....LA or south beach? nah se mean ya heard me?
If that is the case great. Fine. More power to him. If I was coaching this team and Nate just wouldn't learn I would have reached my breaking point a while ago and not resign him (I really think it is indisputable we did him a HUGE favor resigning him to the contract we did). Problem is, Donnie didn't want to lose what some consider an asset and it wasn't gonna hurt our cap situation anyway so mind as well sign him.
Now, if Nate is being a problem child, D'Antoni is a bigger man than I am. I would have gave him the Dorn treatment from Major League and just sat his ass and submarine his value for next season. At this point, to me, this should have been a we scratched your back you scratch ours situation because long term this trade doesn't affect Nate in the least, IMO.
ok...I'm bitter,I admit it.
its a tough call joe c - i dont think you are a spiteful person and as a coach to a young adult, the coach is seen as a father figure in a lot of cases - i know im reaching, but would you punish your son to that extent if he pissed you off? you gotta be able to forgive and move on. if dantoni benched him for the season, what would that prove? nothing, only thing it would do is hurt nate for years to come moneywise and make dantoni look like an *******. also what would it say to other players that want to play here if this is the type of coach they're dealing with. i think lots of players around the league would lose taste for dantoni b/c if he benches nate for the season it is for purley selfish and vindictive reasons imho. i dont think that dantoni is that type of guy...
He isn't, as evidenced by him going back to Nate. My point is, there is a point where you do have to say enough is enough. Here's the thing, I may have come off as I wanted to drop his FA value on purpose by benching him. How I meant it to be taken was at some point you have to move on if a guy is that much of a problem for you, and if he didn't help my purpose as a coach, I have no concern for his value as a FA.
Like I said, the Knicks did him a favor by resigning him to the goodwill contract they did. Personally I feel like any trade involving Nate is a lateral move regarding his interests since he is a FA in 6 months anyway. We are not gonna utilize his Bird rights, I don't think anyway. So I just feel him blocking trades is a big F-U to this organization. If I had to choose between Nate and Pringles, I am choosing Pringles ad infinitum.
In regards being able to forgive and move on, I really think that Nate had a million chances to right his ship and he just can't/won't/doesn't want to. To me that is a Nate problem. D'Antoni has experience with guys with Nate's skill set (Leandro Barbosa), so he can utilize his talents, but the player has to bend also and if he won't, he doesn't play.
