arenas should have stuck with video games and blogging. he was fun, harmless then. i think what happened was people around him started to pressure him to grow up, but he is just not a very serious person, so he bought a gun to seem adult.

Crittenton's not a small dude... he'd probably kick Arenas' ass.

If that is true, those two are the dumbest idiots ever. Why would you even bring a gun to the arena? I could understand having a gun in your car in case you get carjacked (if state law allows it), but why would you possibly need a gun at the arena. DC gun laws are tough, so both might go to jail over this.

agreed... i can't believe the stupidity of some of these athletes these days... i wanted Crittenton on this team in the past but i'm glad we didn't get him now... who the hell brings a loaded gun into the lockerroom, much less brandishes it against a fellow teammate? Arenas was always a knucklehead, so i'm not surprised at this from him, but never expected this from Crittenton... for his part at least he wasn't the first one to draw, for whatever that's worth.

EDIT: apparently the guns were not loaded... this story may have been blown out of proportion by the press to create a story... wouldn't have been the first time.

After practice at the Verizon Center on Friday, Arenas sharply disputed The New York Post’s version of events.

“I saw the story,” Arenas told The Washington Post. “Very compelling. Some real O.K. Corral stuff.”

“I wake up this morning and seen I was the new John Wayne.” Arenas wrote on his Twitter account, adding. “Media is too funny.”

When asked if he had showed the weapons to anyone, Arenas said: “Yes, I showed them to someone. I showed them to team security when I handed them to them and said give them to the police. Yes, I took them out of this locker room. I had to take them out to get them out of here to give to security. You see they didn’t take the whole locker out of here.

guy is a crack up tho, i'll give him that much.

He pleaded no contest to misdemeanor weapons and vehicle charges in 2003 after being charged with carrying a .40-caliber handgun and driving without a license during a traffic stop in California. Shortly after, Arenas left the Golden State Warriors and signed a six-year, $64 million contract with the Wizards.

The N.B.A. suspended Arenas for the first game of the 2004 season because of the charge. Arenas said he had registered the weapon in Arizona, but not in California.

but definitely a knucklehead.

Latest I saw was that Arenas put three guns on a table, and told Crit to pick one. Crit said he already had one, and they drew against eachother...

What is going on with the rest of the people around them when this happens?

This will be a test of the CBA. Washington should be able to be free and clear of both of these guys or the NBA is going to look like a joke.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

LOL. THat is the craziest shyt I have every heard a professional athlete doing (other than Carruth trying to kill his so-to-be baby momma ten years ago or so). What was Arenas thinking? These are two grown millionaires fighting over a stupid bet and willing to draw down on each other like they are on the corner. It is sad to say, but it seems like you can take the man out the ghetto, but you can't take the ghetto out the man.

Trust the Process

drawing unloaded guns against each other... that seems like an likely scenario to me... but then again, we are talking about Gilbert Arenas, so i guess anything's possible.

I don't think someone saying that the league is full of gang bangers is racist at all. The NBA has a serious image problem that Stern was branded a racist for trying to protect.

75% of the league according to Harris and Jarvis Hayes carries weapons.

This is disgraceful and may just save the Wizards stupidity for handing Arenas the cash.

A large majority of these guys need reality checks and tighter standards need to be put in place. Especially with the cash some of these dudes get, there need to be clauses in contracts that hold players responsible.

according to 1 article i read, carrying weapons into an NBA venue could be interpreted as a violation of the collective bargaining agreement... if that's the case i wonder if WAS could feasibly void the rest of Arenas' contract? that would be a huge price to pay for one's own stupidity, sorta like the Mike Vick case in ATL.

If this is true, thery should get huge suspensions and they should get their contracts voided. Sad and scary incident.

Any business owner who was ever threatened to be robbed and didn't like that feeling, just might get strapped too. Now playing with guns in a locker room is something different.

Players have been gambling amongst themselves for a long time, not too many have made the news that's all.

Gangbangers? Who in the NBA is in a gang? Why wouldnt you consider that racist? Is what happened in Washington a common occurrence?

When Black athletes are caught in a negative episode, their actions are always made out to be representative of the whole. In addition, the actions are usually breathlessly exaggerated (peep the commentary whenever there is an NBA fight vs. MLB or NHL)
