Hmm, that's a great point Andrew. I don't want to trade Lee anyway, but I think that's very important to remember.

Actually there is a loop hole. Any team that trades for him can give him a 20% salary increase this upcoming summer regardless of their cap situation. I believe it is referred to as the Non-bird exception.

Nate & Hill for Oden & Bayless.

I know MDA would love to get a project like Oden, especially with his skill set: landing on the DL with freak injuries!

But- for us, its a low risk deal to see if Oden can have a career in the NBA.

Lee has a handshake deal with knicks. Knicks sign lebron and Bosh then Lee inks his deal with us.

Lee can always pull a Booze and take it somewhere else but thats business!

Keep in mind Lee is a base year comp player and his of his $7mm salary we can only take back half of that so you need to involve other players.

There is ZERO chance the Knicks trade Lee. He's getting a big extension and deserves it

btw, they just activated Jeff Pendergraphe

That was my first thought. If you offered Darko for an expiring and a second round pick or even just swapped second round picks and we get the higher pick.

Another thought would be a trade of Darko, Douglas, and a second round pick and $3 mill for Bayless. They probably would like more defense at the pg position, so this deal might interest them. I am reluctant to give up Douglas though, but Bayless looks like a more dynamic scorer with good size for a PG. If he can actually play the position, he has more long-term potential.

No way. Never trade big for small, especially for an unproven small when we still have no idea how good our big is going to be.

If you are the Knicks, you would regret making this trade, if you did, at some point in the future, IMO.

why?

Better upside for Hill, IMO, and although Bayless may become a good guard at some point, he is nothing special, also IMO.

We also have Douglas, who is a better defensive player, and may be a better shooter. I looked at some Portland sites, and have watched a few games on League Pass to know that Bayless' jumper is very inconsistent, and he has not shown enough as a distributor to make you believe he can be a PG in the NBA.

I am not willing to trade a guy with Hill's potential for a 6'2"/6'3" combo guard with a questionable shot whose greatest strength is his ability to get to the basket.

If that is the case then any team can sign him because he makes $7 mill and 20% increase would be about $8.4 mil, which is close to what I think he would accept. I wonder if the Knicks make the playoffs, does his extra $1 mill kick in even if he is not on the team. If so, does that count in determining the 20% figure? If so, that would bring him to $9.6 mill, which is a number I am sure he would accept if given max raises each year.

I dont understand why. I dont really care about his stats because he is playing a position which he will not be able to play when we are trying to make the playoffs. I want to see how effective Lee is again other PF's. Plus we have Jordan Hill and Gallinari nipping at his heels.

I'd much prefer we move Lee assets that help up round out the team.

Just read on hoopshype:

"The Blazers also found out after the game that star guard Brandon Roy injured his shoulder in the game and could not lift his arm last night. He is expected to get an MRI today to see if the injury is more severe than expected, but given how bad Portland's season has gone with injuries it is hard not to expect the worst"

If Roy goes down, they are going to need some roster adjustments. This may be a perfect opportunity to target Rudy or Bayless (although I'd prefer Rudy)

Rudy is always hurt but he would fill our need for a SG and he is still on a rookie contract. I would offer Nate, Darko, a second round pick, and $3 mill for Rudy.

Roy going down opens up trade options for Lil Nate. They would have to be very creative though since salaries don't match to anything we would want.

If Roy goes down they will likely not deal anyone. They will collect their lottery pick and start fresh next year.

If they go into free fall and get a top 5 pick I will be pissed.

Maybe we should offer that package for Ridnour instead?

That team just can't stay healthy. Some bad terrible luck hitting them just when it looked like they might be serious contenders.
