Knicks need to stay away from this deal. I think we would be nice fit with Lebron, but not with Diaw included. We have Gallo at the PF.

The right deal will come around with patience. Chandler is starting to get it. And you don't want to give up on him yet with his defensive potential, age and skill set. You want to win a championship you need guys like that.

I think someone like Jordan Farmer who is terrible in LA right now would do very well in this offense working the pick and roll, hitting open three pointers. I would be all over him.

The only guy we could trade straight up for DJ would be Hill, and that might be a possibility. Douglas+Chandler works but no thanks unless we get a first rounder back.

Funny.. he was a very good defender at Texas. At 5'11 he's not going to lock guys down but you can still defend. Wonder what his problem is.

I think you could still sign 1 max FA. As far as signing a 2nd FA, we probably won't be able to sign Bosh, Johnson or Amare anyway, so you pretty much have a good team in tact to attract the max guy aka Lebron. I think Diaw would be a solid move

The idea is to remove salary, not add on. No way am I adding Diaw who has I believe three years left on his deal. That makes no sense.

If you are talking about Jeffries and Curry, I don't think this deal would preclude us from trading either of them. It does however address two needs - a PG and an MDA favorite forward who is a prototypical fit in his system. Also, considering Diaw came to the Suns as part of a trade that sent Johnson to Atlanta, I think you could say that MDA prefers Diaw over Johnson and also Johnson might even have some bad feelings towards MDA. Also, Johnson will likely be looking for more in the FA market then the 9M that Diaw is getting. In sghort, I think you can cross Johnson off the list of 2010 FA's likely to come to NY. Bosh might be another story altogther and he could fill the center role in 2010, but we still have to move JJ/Curry to have enough cap space to sign him. Unlikely, but still possible even if we trade for Diaw. In short, Diaw makes us a better team right now and next year which can only make us more attractive to FA's like Lebron who wants to win and not re-build. Anyways if you want to spin it, and we do somehow move JJ and Curry and sign Lebron and Bosh, a team of Lebron, Bosh, Diaw, DJ, Gallo, Douglass, and possibly Harrington and a second rounder or two could be pretty decent.

You dont add any salary before the summer of '10. Diaw makes us marginally better (still not a definite playoff team) Lebron makes us a contender. Give Lebron a chance to say no before you consider adding any salary.

We should be able to add a max FA and a mid-level guy in 2010 as we stand right now. All I'm saying is why not start looking for that mid-level guy now via trade which could make our team better this year and more attractive to a max FA guy in 2010. We can still look to deal JJ and Curry as that priority will not change. Also, why limit yourself to available 2010 FA's when you can shop the entire league for what you need right now via trade.

That's a good article on the kid I think 5 million gets the deal done and gives the knicks there point guard of the future and we can resign lee and have a lot of depth and still add lebron.

Farmer-Douglas
Lebron
Chandler-Jefferies
Gallo-Hill
Lee-Curry

You have a finisher Lebron can find for easy buckets in lee and three starters that can hit the open jumper. I think that makes the knicks a seriously dangerous team with emerging talent that is going to continue to improve. No other east team really offers that and defensively they would be solid.

why all the talk about Diaw when we just signed Bender?

In fact, don't know that we need Lebron.

I have a feeling this is subterfuge--the real heading should be --DW wathces Lebron put up 40-8-5 and has purchased a long red carpet.

I live Augustin but I don't know if I want Diaw. He has 3 years left in his contract(including this year) and has a substantial contract.

I would send Jordan Hill for Augustin and an unprotected 1st rd pick. The bad thing is they already traded their 1st rd pick for this upcoming draft. Does that mean they can't trade their 1st rounder the following year?

You would give up ANOTHER unprotected 1st rounder? Aren't we done messing up our future? Sheesh. It's not like we would be getting Chris Paul back.

Larry Brown loves Kirk Hinrich and there would have to be be some sort of a three way if we were to get Augustin.

GodSavetheKnicks - the right situation?

Jordan Farmar is playing in his hometown, where he led Taft High School to it’s first Los Angeles City title. He attended UCLA, and just earned an NBA championship ring in front of The Laker Girls.

Care to describe a better situation?

Good point. No giving away unprotected 1st rounders unless it's the diff between trading for a superstar or not.

Care to describe a better situation?

1. I'm not sure playing in your hometown is always the best situation (ex: Stephon Marbury in NY)

2. He's got Derek Fisher in front of him a veteran who does NOT make mistakes and who Phil Jackson trusted through a few championships

I think playing under Fisher and being part of a winning situation with a quality coach and veterans who work hard was a great environment for a rookie coming into the league. Now? Not so much.

Now it might be better for Farmar to go somewhere he can get minutes. This guy looked so promising when he came in. I have no idea what happened to him. Maybe he expected to take over Fishers starting job and got discouraged when Fisher came back to the Lakers because of the situation with his daughter? The Lakers are a team with legit championship hopes so they can't just trot out Farmar and let him play through his mistakes.

But I would have no problem with bringing any young player with upside and a reasonable contract. If it doesn't work out we trade him or he walks at the end of his deal.

So I won't be heartbroken if we don't get Farmar but if we do I think it would be cool. Just like Bender. If Bender doesn't work out no big deal.

Augustin has 2 more years left after this season. $2.5 Mill for next season and a team option for 3M + the season after that. Not good for a team that needs cap space but not a crippler I guess.

Farmar makes 1.9 M this season. And then I think is a restricted FA after this season. Lower risk. I have no idea what Phil Jackson thinks of this guy.

Will Bynum is someone I have a mancrush on. He makes $825k this season and

a) as far as I know the Pistons haven't locked him up
b) is on a team where he has Stuckey (alleged PG of the future, reason why Chauncey was expenable) , Ben Gordon (BIG money), Rip Hamilton (ditto) to compete with for minutes.

Joe Dumars LOVES Bynum but I see no reason for him to stay in a crowded backcourt vs going somewhere where he can play major minutes and get P-A-I-D.

The Answer Man Wonders Why Fans Only See One Side Of An Equation

GodSaveTheNYK - I'm not sure playing in your hometown is always the best situation (ex: Stephon Marbury in NY)

AM - you just mentioned Jordan Farmar and Stephon Marbury in the same line. Rinse your mouth with Listerine

GodSaveTheKnicks - He's got Derek Fisher in front of him a veteran who does NOT make mistakes and who Phil Jackson trusted through a few championships

A. Derek Fisher is 47 years old and about ready to pass the baton down the line. Farmar can wait around the Staples Center for a few minutes in between trips to the Santa Monica Pier, down Ventura Boulevard and to the beach.

GodSaveTheKnicks - I think playing under Fisher and being part of a winning situation with a quality coach and veterans who work hard was a great environment for a rookie coming into the league. Now? Not so much.

AM - don't delude yourself. If you think for a moment that Trevor Ariza does not consider his Laker championship ring his most prized possession then you are sadly mistaken.

why would u wanna add Diaw's contract to the cap for 2010? unless we're dumping Fishlips in that deal there's no point in doing that.
