Portland's entire defensive scheme was find Gallo and put a SG/SF out there to guard him. The guy has such BBIQ. He never forces shots. When they had Webster come out and force him to pass or put the ball on the floor he put it on the floor, broke down the D and made some brilliant passes that would have been assists if Lee and Hughes his their shots.

He does a great job of using his body to protect the ball when he's taking guys off the dribble, almost like an arm bar.

And his height and length is such an advantage... when he hit that shot over roy, they showed the view directly behind gallo on the replay. He towered over roy so easily, it was like he was shooting that shot in an empty gym... He is not a great athlete, but he is a good athlete, looks awkward, but he gets it done, so he has some decent level of athletic ability...

I remember saying that after that one summer league game that he played. I don't think Gallo realized how open he is at times(even when guarded) That's one of the things that makes Dirk so great. A couple years into his career he realized that if he got the ball unimpeded to his shoulders he was taking a practice jumper. Gallo just needs to learn to create just enough space(in the end it will be with bumps of his body because he will not be quick enough to juke most of the smaller guys teams are throwing out at him) to get the ball into the shooting position. At that point he can relax. That will come with experience. He will learn how to create space and he will learn when he is really open.

Also don't forget, Gallo is showing that he is a good defender. Not great, but good, better than most on our team. Mostly because of smarts and heart, less because of athleticism. Lee should take note, but he's a lost case on defense.

And aside from his shooting, passing and other quantifiable skills, he has NO FEAR and real desire to win. He has the exact fearless approach and hard-nosed attitude you want in a team sport.

That's a good point. He and Douglas both play that way.

I'm just glad that he's coming along just fine. Some of the media keep suggesting that our young core won't be attractive to FA's but I think Gallo is a VERY good piece to look forward to playing with. If we can get into the playoffs that would be awesome experience for Gallo and it would be a great showcase for him.

I also think TD and even Hill will be positives for us as well. I still believe Hill will get a shot at some point this season. I think Lebron etc are smart enough to realize the potential Gallo has and may like playing with such a great team player.

Hate to rain on everyone's parade but

You guys want to have it both ways on one hand when a young player is playing poorly you say it's too early to judge him but on the other hand when he's playing well it's okay to declare him the best of his draft class?

It's a fair point. Let's try to take a fair look at it. There's a number of players to take a look at, as it was a deep draft. I think the players you have to compare Gallo to are first the guys drafted before him, who are all good players - Rose, Beasely, Mayo, Love and Westbrook. Also playing well are Gordon, B. Lopez, Thompson and Speights. My feeling is that all of the players I mentioned are playing well as is Gallo. It's too soon to try distinguish who's best.

One thing to consider is that most of those players are ahead of Gallinari because of his injury in his rookie season. So we'll see. Gallo's numbers are good - that's not kool aid. He's scoring 14 points a game and his percentages are good. He's playing decent defense and starting to play smart and tough. He is definitely not a bust, but as to where he belongs in his class - at this point I'd say he's one of a number of good players that distinguish the 2008 draft.

actually... thats the reason for the title. Its silly to make such judgements. We will know in 4-5 years who the best is, and even then it will be debatable. If Lebron comes here maybe Gallo is his side kick and they win 3-4 titles together while Derrick Rose has Marbury like #s for lousy teams. Who can judge?

Last year Gallo had a bad back and Anthony Randolph was the nextx KG. Now he might not even be the next KVH.

Hell.. anyone see Lee take Aldridge one on one last night? How about that spin move for a layup with his back to the basket? Didnt everyone say Lee had no post game? Maybe I imagined what happened?

How about this?

I am happy we chose Gallo with the 6th pick because I think he's got the size and skill to be an impact player in this league, maybe even a star. I also like his moxy and toughness and skills he shows for a guy 50 games into his career.

Wow, there's enough kool-aid here to fill the McCarren Park Pool. Every time Gallo has one game where he actually moves around and does what he's supposed to do he's the greatest thing ever. Any GM would trade Gallo for Randolph, Lopez, McGee or Thompson straight up, all of which were drafted later.

Great to see Gallo have a good game, but come on now.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

He was a bust up to this point, let's all be honest here he looked half dead a few weeks ago, As did most of the team what were seeing from everyone is a more relax(I know my role) type atmosphere

The entire 8 man rotation has shown us some good things during this little streak, but with more minute and no looking over your shoulder, galla has looked the most impressive. I don't think MDA was to far fetch with the best shooter comment. He may make allan houston look like a avg shooter by the time he's done.

I love Gallo and I can see that many others are starting to love him too as not many people laugh at me anymore when I wear my Gallo jersey (unlike last year).

As several others have said, he has an exceptional understanding of the game and when you combine that with a very good set of skills and work ethic, the result is deadly. He is already starting to show that he does not have any glaring weaknesses, which is impressive as hell when you consider how young he is. Not to mention, he already has an effective field goal % that is through the roof. If he isn't the best shooter that we've ever seen, he is certainly one of the most efficient.

I really do think the sky is the limit for this kid. Unlike Wilson, Gallo has star potential in my opinion.
