here here. Nice to see him playing well but I am open to trading anyone on this roster if we can lose JJ or Curry's contracts in process

Hughes was a starter on the Cavs team that got to the Finals. This shouldn't be surprising. The system is a good fit for him. I'd love to start Toney next to him, but he and Duhon seem to be doing okay lately - the offense has shot near 50% the last few games. That's what we need.

im assuming the plan is to sign the big names, get back over the cap, then if the pieces fit sign a MLE.

no MLE next year. You cant sign FAs with cap space AND use a MLE. Doesnt work that way.

It all depends on who we get. We need a center and a PG. Of course all the big FAs are wings so that figures.

we'll also have a lot more freedom with trades next season since, with cap room, we won't have to match salaries.

i would be willing to re-sign Hughes to a 3 year extension at ~$5 mil per, but only after our first priorities are met in free agency in terms of the max FA we target... i think Hughes fills a lot of our needs on the perimeter... he plays excellent D, he can score & he can orchestrate when called upon... our options at PG this offseason are severely limited among free agents.

you will be surprised at how many guys sign for the league minimum next summer. there's a lock-out brewing, teams are losing money left and right.

if we get one or two of the big free agents, we might get a couple more decent guys following for a chance to play on a winning team in a big market.

also, maybe it's a pipe dream - but i'm hoping walsh can do something like colangelo did in toronto this summer and not actually go under the cap, but arrange sign and trades - which would allow us to keep the MLE (if we don't go under the cap) - which would be HUGE.

You would!? I find that surprising. I think he's played very well this year. But over his career his shot selection and decision making skills have been questionable. He's not a good shooter, even in his best years which are behind him, he was a low percentage shooter. He's not a point guard and he's 30 years old. If it costs that much to sign him I wouldn't even consider it.

Larry Hughes tonight: 22% shooting for 5 points. 4 turnovers.

Great decision making on display?

i absolutely love his defense, & if we have someone he's looking to get the ball to on offense then his shooting % is not as much of a concern for me... he's shown a willingness to get Gallo involved & he's worked well w/D Lee in the P&R, my feeling is if we were to bring in Bosh to take over Lee's place on this team he will work well w/him also... 30 years old is not over the hill in NBA terms, he's still got a few good years left in him... he plays an all around game, he knows the system & the coach, & the guys we have to choose from in free agency are pretty slim pickings at the PG position... i actually do think Hughes can be a fulltime PG in this system, he's definitely our best orchestrator from what i've seen this season... Toney Douglas has not shown 1 iota of a glimpse that he can handle orchestration duties, at least not yet, & Nate Robinson will be gone after this season, bet on it... Hughes is a much better option than Duhon to lead this team if no other better options become available via trade in the offseason.

Well, I hope you're right but I don't see him as a point guard. He's been in the league a long time and never been a high assist guy. To me he's been a positive this year but I don't see him as a starter on a good team. I can see him in the rotation but I wouldn't commit 15 mil. If he's the best we can do next year as a starting PG- then we're in trouble and I'd hope to do better in 2011.

in 2011 Tony Parker is a possibility but i don't see any way SA doesn't re-sign him or why he'd wanna leave... i haven't gone through the other choices but even at midlevel dollars, Hughes would be a solid backup role player on any team's bench... right now he's overpriced at $12 mil per but IMO he'd be a bargain at $5 mil per... let's say we sign someone like Lebron or even Joe Johnson in free agency this year (JJ is not my ideal but he's definitely someone worth discussing), then having Hughes as your starting PG won't be an issue... actually in that scenario, he becomes a valuable asset because of his versatility & defense.

another stellar game by Larry Hughes... what other midlevel options are out there that play well on both sides of the ball that are better than this guy? i wouldn't mind him sticking around past this season at all... love the way he's ballin' this year... much rather have him than Steve Blake.

I've argued with friends of mine that Hughes was a baller and would be a superior option to Duhon at the point. The guy was often the primary ball handler in washington. Injuries derailed his time with the Cav's. I have to admit that he is shooting better than I thought he would.

Wonder if seeing his production if DelNegro regrets not playing him in ChiTown.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

Hughes' shooting is up and down, but his defense is always very good. He handles the ball very well for the 2 and could probably get by at the point. He's a good passer as well.
