This "team" needs 8. So even if we can get an elite player, who knows if thats best anymore. This UFA class has so many big names with even more free agents. In this down economy, I'd be all about waiting and snapping up as many bargains as possible. I really don't care anymore. If the team can get 8 John Salmons at John Salmons money, I'll be stoked.

Otherwise you make a play for Joe Johnson and Amare Stoudemire because they might actually leave and the Knicks need to target quality players they can get. Not to mention they win.

There is going to be a feeding frenzy for the best. It's like when you walk into a Irish pub loaded with dudes throwing down round after round of Guiness and Jameson. Then a group girls walk in. Everyone in the bar is either hitting on the hottest one or the least intimidating one. Second hottest is usually the most attainable if and only if she is pursued first, and she doesn't think she's the second option.

Why is melo terminating his deal when his team should be in the Western conference finals for two or threes with Billups?? I get the Lbj situation with New York, the media and the money. But now every star in the league has secret Nike deal money for playing in NY???

I think wanting all these guys to leave champion contenders is a pipe dream at this point. We have a 20win team that is going to let 75 percent of it's roster walk, with no first round pick.

Who says Gallo is ready in 2-3years to be starting on a title team. What about hill??? Is he going to put it together before a Stoudimare/bosh hits 33. Or is Melo plus Bosh suppose carry a bunch of 24 year olds and walk-ons to contender stasis??? Pixie Dust and Unicorn farts if you ask me.

i don't even get the point of that post... so what do u propose we do then & what do u expect to happen in this offseason when free agency hits & we have all this cap space to play with?

I want a solid plan.

I expect everybody but Bosh to resign and if Donnie is a good Gm he should too. Because you are going to have to search for a while to find the last time a team that finished in the 8 of the nba lost its best player. Banking on contending teams stars is a waste, even before you add that the Knicks are probably a 20 win team.

We need to start thinking about building a team at this point.

ok well this year we don't own our 1st round pick... so unless u got some franchise saving trade ur thinking of, then free agency is our best bet at improving this team right now... yeah it's a gamble but so is the draft... u need to take advantage of every available resource to build a winning franchise & free agency is included, especially for us in our current situation, cap flexibility is probably our biggest asset right now.

Allan Houston getting teams to the playoffs???

LJ, Ewing, Spree, Camby, Starks, have anything to do with him getting to the playoffs. Rudy is the better player at the same point in there careers period

are people watching stat lines or the player? If you guys thought Zach was a black hole Rudy could swallow 3 suns. funny on that team zach mayo and gasol all pass the ball. once rudy gets it a shot is going up 75% of the time and he touches the ball a ton. Zach and Gasol have such great shooting percentages because they at least half their shots are put back attempts. Maybe he is playing so selfishly because he wants to get paid but why would NY want yet another athlete that values padding stats over making winning plays?

Yeah, this is what i was talking about. His assist numbers are bad. The D'antoni offense requires passing. I get on Chandler for mindless chucking so would Rudy Gay just be a better version of Chandler?

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Most young small forwards don't put up gaudy assists numbers. Rudy gay is on the brink of becoming a prolific Small forward. I wouldn't be worried about him moving the ball with Mike D.

i love how everyone is hating on mda while totally ignoring the fact that this team as presently constructed CANNOT be successful. remember, i say long ago, it is not so much the COMPONENTS of a System, but the CONNECTIONS between the components that determine whether or not it will succeed. right now the sloppy web of connections between contract year misfits like hughes and harrington and our young core is holding the team back. god couldn't do much better with this. add the fact that mda is preaching a more unique approach than anything most of these guys have ever seen, and you have a recipe for disaster; which is what we have now.

WE AIN'T NOWHERE WITH THIS BUM CHOKER IN CARMELO. GIVE ME STARKS'S 2-21 ANY DAY OVER THIS LACKLUSTER CLUSTEREFF.

i don't know , maybe you sarcastic now, but you're not wrong...lebron or not, this will be forgotten when we have assembled a team that works well together; that is, a team made up of players that have a future here.

not being sarcastic at all, i think lebron will be a knick next summer.

if not, then the knicks should move to the meadowlands after the nets move to brooklyn.
