Every time I logon this board I keep hoping this is the day you've been banned. You really make visits to this board unpleasant. I do not understand what other purpose you serve on this board besides annoying the hell out of people, ruin every thread you participate in, and making offensive comments. You come off as a complete attention seeking troll.

One thing that almost everyone seems to forget about is that on an Intel Mac you can install a copy of a Windows operating system and start your computer up as a Windows computer using "Bootcamp." I run XP Pro on my iMac, and have no problems with it. You can also guy Parallels Desktop which allows you to switch back and forth between the systems.

Means that that there is no reason not to buy the Mac, unless cost is the determining factor. Better OS by far, and that is what I really look at these days.

if you want frank discussion between pc and mac, you must make it fair by also discussing a pc running a linux operating system. much like the mac, which i think is based on some type of unix system or whatnot, the pc running linux faces no virus/security threats (negligible, nothing is 100% in life) and it requires less resources to run than windows on same computer. all software available for pc/mac is available in equal number and quality for linux systems, and for free. 2 cents.

practically speaking, one can run away with a much cheaper pc, install a linux distribution for free, and have a system very closely resembling the quality and stability of a much higher priced mac computer. 2 cents.

linux distributions are not what they used to be and are these days available and accessible to even novice computer users. for example, ubuntu 9 comes with built in working wireless support and a bunch of other easynessess that make experience much safe and pain-free, and same time you support your ideological urges and feel good. 2 cents.

mark twain and lewis and clark would have used pc's running linux. 2 cents.

I haven't seen compelling evidence that says Windows is the best OS so for me not having Windows isn't a determining factor in what computer I purchase. Furthermore in my experience I've had a lot problems with PCs and wanted a change.

Still going strong. And its on 24/7.
When i'm not around it goes in sleep mode.
Have never had a problem with it.

Was it slow because it was a PC or because it was old? Or maybe you just wanted a Mac?

Porn slows Mac's down too

Seriously though, they make really nice computers and you can run windows on them if you need to - I would like one myself

Mac is generaly better than PC for video and graphics. If that is your main use, then a MAC is fine. MAC's cost more than PC's for the same equipment but the OS is far superior. No need to install a PC operating system on a MAC. That is of no use for 99% of people.

You say your PC is slow. What is the configuration? Speed? Is it Core2duo? How much RAM?
For video you need a fast chip and a LOT of RAM for both MACs and PCs. So maybe you just need a new computer?

NewEgg is a good co. for buying extra RAM. They will have something on sale, especially now during the holiday season. Buy as much RAM on sale as you can.

Good luck.

I actually find there is little to no difference between video and graphics on a MAC vs. a PC these days. It generally comes down to OS system preference and overall build quality.

MACS = better build quality for laptops (aluminum uni-body design) but have older equipment inside of them and cost more. However if you are a fan of OSX this is the only way to go unless you hackintosh. They also have higher resale value than PC's and you cannot deny the MAC wow factor, they do a great job of building products people lust after.

PC = lower build quality depending on the brand, newest tech is available at lower prices than MAC, compatibility with 90% of users on the planet (moot point now that you can run Windows on a MAC). Low buy in, low re-sale value.

Performance is about the same but you may see more performance degradation over time on a PC (not sure on this). Always try to max your ram out and buy the best processor you can. Also an SSD would really boost performance but they are $$$$ right now.

Windows 7 has made the playing field pretty equal in terms of OS so at the end of the day it comes down to preference and budget.
