Hahn also posted something in his twitter about that. I don't know why this would need to coincide with the AI signing.

Yeah, it makes no sense. We have an extra roster spot already and if they want AI, I would think they would want to get it done as soon as possible so he can join the team and get familiar with the new surroundings...

since many people on the island are not of drinking age or are not healthy enough to consume alcohol I get theirs.

I think he meant that he would buy one drink for the entire island of Manhattan.

Ugh.............

Alright. If we do sign Iverson I will welcome him and hope he plays well and wins some games for us.

Yet, I have my reservations, I think it will backfire, I think he will bitch moan and cry unless he is given 100% free reign. If he is given free reign he will be a detriment to the growth of our young players. He is a cancerous person. He has numerous bad habits. And for our kids to be looking up to and learning from such a player is a disaster in the making.

Just let it be known that Iverson isn't leading us to the playoffs, Iverson isn't going to help develop our kids, Iverson isn't going to listen to the coach, Iverson isn't going to cater to the team in any way, Iverson isn't going to lure free agents here next year. Iverson will do what Iverson wants to do and that is that. It's a bad idea.

I've said my peace...I will wait and see what does or does not happen.

Cosmic - what bad habits of Iverson are you referring to?

He bleeds, takes hard hits and keeps coming back for more. He makes his free throws. Certainly, his tats and braids are not the norm, he wears a do rag and made David Stern change the NBA dress code...he pals around with dudes that make some folks squirm and his Moms acts kinda silly...

...but ON the court Iverson plays hard rock basketball. Always has. Iverson leaves it ALL on the court. I will forgive the shot selection if he pushes the ball up court like a man on a mission.

The Knicks yoots just might learn something about competing from him.

I have posted them in the other threads ad nauseum.

Iverson: "I don't practice. They know what I do."
Iverson: "I don't try out. They know what I do."
Iverson: "I don't change my game. You don't sign me to change my game. You sign me because you know what I do. You sign me to do what I do."

He is a DISASTER.

This is what you want mentoring Douglas, Hill, Gallo, Chandler, (Nate/Lee) ??????????

Why? To get some cheap thrills for going 35-47 instead of 28-54? (MAYBE!!!! MAYBE he has that impact at MOST!!!! AT MOST!)

Come'on.

Again, if we do it, I welcome him aboard (until he drives me nuts) and hope he does well here.

Guarantee: All Dialogue Reported Verbatim

Cosmic - I feel your anxiety but allow me to assist with the English translation from Tidewater Virginia slang.

Iverson: "I don't practice. They know what I do."

Translation: "My good man, I have sacrificed my body for over a decade, if you really feel that I should subject myself to redundant punishment because of some coaching philosophy which focuses on the peripheral and not the specifics of game performance than I must humbly disagree with you. Excuse me, are you going to use that sweatband?"

Iverson: "I don't try out. They know what I do."

Translation: "I feel strongly that my professional record and resume speaks for itself. I would feel inclined to validate any questioning of my professional career had the Sixers not reached the NBA Finals in large part due to my individual effort, sacrifice and dedication to the game that I love. For those who question my desire or competitive fire, when was the last time you carried a playground four to more than three wins in a row to hold the court in any respected urban battlefield?"

Iverson: "I don't change my game. You don't sign me to change my game. You sign me because you know what I do. You sign me to do what I do."

Translation: "I yam what I yam and that's all that I am" - Popeye The Sailor

Tidewater? Damn...did you get flooded from that storm recently?

Yeah, I feel what Iverson is saying, and to some degree I understand...but...it's outside of the team concept and we're trying to build a team concept for the young'ins to learn from. Iverson reverses that. That's all I'm saying.

Ah, and, as I said I will welcome Iverson and hope he works out.... but, I'll just get this out of my system now.

Allen I-Versus-Em
Allen Cryverson

....and until we do or don't sign him I'm done talking about the selfish little midget hoodlum wannabe. (anyone ever see his Georgetown yearbook photos? What a clean cut little NERD he was. Yep. - then comes to the NBA and acts like he was a hoodrat with a rough life. Yea...whatever.)

Just for the record Cosmic... I have never been a huge fan of Iverson's game dating back to his days at Georgetown. He suffers from tunnel vision, takes shots that make me cringe and is too intelligent to carry himself in a manner that conforms to some false image of style and street credibility. He could be so much more. Like his homey Mike Vick, his worldview is confined to the immediate rather than the global.

On the other hand, he loves kids and supports causes that build better support systems for the disadvantaged. He is a tireless worker, just not on any terms but his own. I respect that. You cannot excel in the NBA at six feet tall if you are not a warrior. I dig the way his eyes light up and dance when his words flow with absolute sincerity. The best part of the "practice" video is him laughing at himself, and along with the media who is laughing along for the ride. It is improvisational performance art at its best. Tony Award material

Say what you will about his basketball skill set. The man is a fierce competitor and you can never have too many of those.

Full speed ahead.

Whatever Iverson is as a person, he plays hard. He went to the finals, and playoffs numerous times. This is not a Marbury who went to the playoffs once in his life.

What is the risk regardless? Can one really make the argument that AI is any worse of an influence on a young player than Harrington and Hughes as far as taking too many shots?

Considering TD and Robinson are both shoot first undersized 2s, they can learn a thing or two from one of the best undersized 2s ever.

A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

markvmc - cute

unfortunately, your analogy is wack. Here is the thing, no one knows how Iverson - if he comes to New York - will mesh with this mixed bag of auditions. There are vets who have been around the block a few times, and some yoots searching for their voice.

Could Allen Iverson be the Knicks straw that stirs the drink?

Perhaps. At this point, no one knows.

The theory that he will poison the impressionable minds of the kids is rubbish. If their minds are so weak that one guy can enter the locker room in late November and disrupt their approach to their chosen profession after Summer League and training camp, then perhaps they should reconsider their focus.

On the other hand, if Iverson recognizes that Gallo likes the ball in a certain spot, and has the intuitive saavy to bond with him, then perhaps the idea may not suck that bad after all. Iverson already has a relationship with Larry Hughes and that 21, 10 and 7 was no mirage - its is merely a sample of what a gifted, motivated pro can produce. Did anyone notice how Eddy Curry responded to the push with a push of his own? It almost led to blows and I'm wit that. Now, mix in the impressionable Jordan Hill, Toney Douglas or Wilson Chandler and see what happens when Iverson demonstrates to them to take it strong, and take the hit without flinching.

Forget the off-the-court nonsense. Allen Iverson is a warrior that Charles Oakley would welcome on his squad with open arms. I don't give a rats butt what anyone thinks outside of the Knicks locker room. If AI signs, it is up to them to make it work.

Let my people run.
