He has horrible lateral quickness, horrible athleticism, mediocre defense, minimal strength and poor shot decision. Any shooter can shine in this system. Jason Kapono would be a Allstar candidate in this system...but it doesn't mean he is good.
His lateral quickness is fine, and his defense is very good, and will get better. He also has great hands and always seems to deflect a few balls each night.
Think about who he had to guard on the outside tonight- 6'5"-6'6" wings. He got "beat" a few times because he sags off his man all the time in an attempt to help in the middle, and when he came back to cover his man on the perimeter, the guy went by him. If he stays with his man the entire time it is a different situation.
How many times does Dirk cover a 6'5" SG who can penetrate on the perimeter? ...Just wondering.
His strength is improving, as are his legs.
His shot decisions fits within the present system run by the Knicks, and if you are able to shoot 3s at a 46% clip, you are making the right decision.
Gallo turned 21 in August. Look at what he is doing now compared to last year. If you can't see the evolution in his game you are blind.
I will not compare his specifics to Dirk, but he is on target to have somewhat similar second year stats.
He is not Larry Bird, but he is going to be a very good player in this league. Sit back, watch him get better, and realize that we are lucky to have him.
