I think with what is going on I am going to stick with Gallinari for now. He's got too many hard to find skills and I am willing to be patient to see what his upside. Spieghts is a good player and represents a huge need for us right now but I am not looking at right now.

I'll pass

He looks like a better version of Horace Grant to me.

we can only sign one (and thats after renouncing bird rights to most of the team) due to jeffries and curry still being on the roster

He's going to get a couple big guns in here. The question is will we be happy with who signs? I mean Lebron and Bosh sounds great! Joe Johnson and Michael Redd not so much.

Time will tell but like it or not that is the plan. We will also have a pretty good idea how he did with Gallo, Douglas and Hill by the end of the year. We dont know now.

DW doesn't really care about much at all. That's pretty clear. Doesn't care about scouting Jennings in high-school when Calhoun said he was the best PG in a generation, or when he went to Italy. Jennings misses the camp Donnie decides to attend and we don't draft him as a result. Awesome.

DW doesn't care about the fans. True enough. Let's see where that gets him this year. Don't throw the fans a bone and try to build a team that can compete. Just throw the same team out there that won 38% of its games after the Craw/Zach trades.

His answer to everything is "2010." Which must be nice. There was a turning point in the Republican primaries where Rudy Giuliani couldn't answer every question with "9/11" anymore. I just wonder if Donnie isn't getting closer to the same juncture.

If you're a GM right now, which one do you want to have? Bosh at Max dollars or Randolph at rookie dollars?

Gallo's a keeper. No way he gets traded unless DW finds out he has some horrible (as yet undisclosed) neuro-muscular disorder that will destroy his career with us.

He is a 6'10" skill guy, which don't exactly grow on trees. Put talent around this kid and we have the Italian Dirk in the making. This is our pre-2010 building year. Play the kids. Trade the vets for expirings and picks. Forget about the bloody playoffs. We have come this far with the atrocious Knicks, let's not make rash moves before we finally get to the finish line.

NBA is a tough league to build a team in. We are close. BTW, how about that Douglas last night. The boy's a baller for sure.

The guy just has no plan. Center and point guard are your two priorities problem solved. But inside he takes two hyprids with no positions. You could have had a championship contender if you drafted jennings, lopez/randolph in place and let them take their lumps and gain time.

Walsh is ready to offer kid a 3 year deal, but no bring in Ariza at the same price? His logic makes no sense. The problem is that no draft pick has been a reach. They were needs, but Donnie ignored them.

Speights is a better player than Gallo right now, but I think Gallo will close that gap in the next year or two. Speights was a very good value pick by the Sixers.

I don't like signaling out Gallinari--but my point of the thread is kind of along the lines of what you are saying--just what the H is the plan? How does a 30 win team take a pick at 7 and not play him when they are 1-7 and we are viewing Gallinari as something that he has not shown.

If you were a FA and was watching this--what would you do--the money is the money but if they are true to their own words--why would Lebron James go to a 20 win team when he stated he wants to win more than he wants money?

Like you said MS--just what is the team next year??

I know that Gallinari Douglas Curry Jefferies and Hill as of now will be here[of course they are not getting Hill PT]--they will have to renounce almost everyone--so the guys on the team on 1 year contracts are most likely gone--not a terrible thing but I would hate to see D Lee leave with no compensation for him. So does this team attract a major FA who wants to win--do they look at any one player and say we can get that done?

The plan should be to try and unload both Harrington and Jeffries in a package deal with scrub expiring contract players.

NYK trades Harrington and Jeffries
Minny trades Mark Blount, there 2010 2nd rder and a future 2nd rder
Washington trades Mike James

NYK gets Mark Blount, Mike James
Minny gets Harrington
Washington gets Jeffries, and Minny's 2nd rd picks

This would then clean up a lot of shots and mins for Gallo and Hill as well as clear up that extra 6.8mil for 2010. We could then put more focus on developing Gallo and Hill rather then trying to build up players values for trades hopefully. The step after that would be to bury Duhon on the bench and eliminated his negative presence.

Lee/Curry/Hill
Gallo/Lee/Hill
Chandler/Gallo/Landry
Hughes/Robinson/James
Robinson/Douglas/Duhon

While I agree that Harrington and JJ gotta go, the only type of team that would want either of them is a Playoff team needing firepower off the bench.

isnt that Wash? I mean early on they thought they would contend for a title. Injuries have slowed them but those two guys are good additions with short term commitment.

Well they would basically be getting Harrington for 2 2nd rd picks. Blount gives them no production.. Plus they would be adding a needed perimeter scorer. And he has an expiring contract which is probably the main reason why they would consider it.

Washington seems like they like Jeffries. Mike James doesn't play for them. They are already over the cap, and they would get back 2 2nd rd picks.

I don't really care how we get rid of them, but Harrington, Jeffries, Duhon all need to be taken out of the equation. We are stunting our growth by having them. Remove them, give Gallo more control of the ball, and have Hill more mins. We will be a way better team going forward.

Extremely good point MS. Coming off of the Isiah days of tiny PF's and combo guards, what's the new strategy? We draft Gallo who has no position, draft Hill, who's a PF and peg him as our center, and draft a short combo guard who looks much more like a 2 guard to me so far.

Just more of the same.

Unbelievable really.
