Just wait until tRicky is suiting up for us every night. You won't be able to yank his balls out of your mouth either. I agree about taking Jennings over Hill, though. BPA makes the most sense, and I am not sure Hill fits that bill. But I am definitely still focused on getting Rubio here, and I am sure it will happen, come hell or high water.

But, apparently, he looked great in his workout for the Knicks.

Knicks felt Hill was the bigger talent. Forget that this evaluation will very likely prove to be wrong, strategically it was poor folly to enter one of the best PG drafts in years with a lottery pick and exit without anything better than Toney Douglas.

This one is going to hurt.

Y'all go it figured out after 4-5 games already?

I thought by most standards it takes 3 years to sort out how the players develop and evaluate the draft. But y'all figured this out in a week!

How about if Hill starts getting run in the second half of the season and does well making Dlee expendable for cap space or sign and trade?

Walsh thinks Hill can be somthing special.

Must fans really second guess every player every week that does better then our pick and microevaluate it. Im sure fans of every team does this.

Good for Skiles and Jennings that after preseason and the first week there is love. Jennings has been nothing but a horses ass verbally but at least he is letting his game do the talking now. In NY he would be in a different fishbowl with more pressure.

Funny, We blast walsh about gallo who did somting in that euro league but Jennings does little and we are ok with passing him by until his Hall of Fame status is confirmed in the first few games.

knicks probably took hill b/c they thought david was going to ask for too much $$$. they used their #8 pick on an insurance policy. if they re-sign david, hill won't be a starter so the pick may have been misused.

I just never really bought the "potential upside" argument with Hill. He was good in college, why do we have to say he has upside? That's just cover for the fact that he's done nothing to this point. Dude was drafted as a Junior. People say he's got all this upside because he didn't play until late in High-School.

You know that Hill is only two years younger than Darko?

He's the same age as Chandler who people are killing on the other thread as if he's a finished product. That's why Chandler should be embraced. He is good at enough things to have a positive impact on the floor and he's 22 years old.

Hill is not good enough to get on the floor and he's 22. Hopefully that changes soon. Kid just looks to me like the game is too fast for him, which can just be a matter of getting settled in.

If Donnie could have had anyone from these two drafts I think he would have wanted Westbrook and Evans. Maybe Mayo. He just could never pull the trigger on deals to get those players that he really wanted. He does seem to take the "safe" route from his draft history with us and with the Pacers. That got him all of one impact player between 1988 and today (Granger). We'll see. Hill needs a PG to pick and roll his way to the basket too, so maybe we'll see better results from him when we get that position settled.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

well, after his first game, i picked him out of free agency for my fantasy bball team and he is definately helping. look, it is too early to make judgements and the key is, when the defense adjust within a week, will he adjust also? he has his quickness but his shot can be erratic and he can still make poor decisions. hill will work out because we needed a post player because i doubt lee will be here next year. hill will be a great rebounder in the future and he is athletic and more importantly willing to learn. we will see if jennings fits the same mold.

bucks went the extra step and hired a personal PR coach to help protect jennings publically from his 19-20 yr old self.

the least the knicks could do is bring in a big man coach so zero resistance doesnt end up like the prior AZ bigman bust Frye.

Ahh My euro bound high school phenom who skipped college to get paid and grow up in Europe has turned some heads who doubted him.

Since he got no run in Europe on his professional team , many thought he had no NBA game so he was taken later at 10 by the bucks.

Even Jay Bilas continued to discredit him on draft night saying he had no shot and didn't have much floor vision. I beg to differ.

In mike dantoni's offense, Jennings would have been the new look steve nash with his ability to continually break down opposing defenses and facilitate the rock and knock down open jumpers.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

i love how everyone talks about how immature he is. he was the first guy to go to europe, how can he be immature? rather than go jerk around in college for a year and go to a few classes, he went to a foreign country and played pro ball. there were only 2 other americans on the team (allan ray from nova being one of them, i forget the other), not to mention the fact that he's the first guy to do this. that reeks of maturity, not immaturity, to me. i had my own list of prospects during the draft and it was heartbreaking watching rubio and curry and everyone fly off but jennings was highest on the board when it came around.

jennings is literally the exact prototype for d'antoni. he can make very difficult passes. he has great 3-point range. he can play up-tempo. he's a great ball-handler. its a glaring indictment of walsh's drafting that the knicks two first rounders are getting DNP-CDs by game #2. pathetic. duhon is playing an absolute ton and douglas can't get off the bench. douglas doesn't even really fit what d'antoni needs. nash and barbosa were great for MDA in phoenix, they are quick, shifty scoring points. douglas is a defender and was a wily scorer in college, but jennings was the quickest guy in the draft by pretty much every account! this offense is called 7 seconds or less, is it not? i mean, its just bizarre and truly a terrible draft selection.

That bust is averaging 17-5 in Phoenix.

Look, Hill might be a player. Big men take time to develop. Sure lets evaluate him after 3 years. But the issue here is just that. We took a big man project that could take three years to look good when we needed to look like a team now. We passed on the best opportunity we’ve had yet (and may have for years) to fill the most important position in D’Antoni’s offense. We failed to get probably the best PG coach in the league a PG to coach. That’s F’d up.

It isn’t just Jennings, but Lawson, Holiday…no less than 7 point guards were picked between Hill and Douglas, any one of them with the potential to give us more under D’Antoni than Duhon is.

If David Lee was the concern then the Knicks could have signed Wilcox to a one year contract. If they were afraid to make the risky pick of Jennings they could have traded down to pick up Holiday or Lawson or Teague (who I liked for Coach D).

No, I think the Knicks just had Hill high on their draft board and they picked the guy they thought was the biggest talent left. In the long run, who knows, this pick may play out to be a decent one. In the short run (the importance of which cannot be discounted given our 2010 plans) the pick was a bad one.

are you saying he wasn't a bust here?

he had a 2 game stretch where he made 12 threes annd then 2 games where he was his usual busty self.

When did MDA become a pg coach? Any that he has actually had to develop DIDN'T.

Media backlash with the asinine Marbury comparisons + MDA's ability to deal with Jennings personality = no Jennings here.

It's to early to tell what? A lottery pick that can't play on one of the worst teams in the league that doesn't have a post presence or a shot blocker.

This kid looked liked **** in summer league. Summer league. He is lost out there has terrible footwork and looks uninspired. Again Walsh really needs to be called into question. Douglas can't play then why did we waste a pick on him? Could have got Affalo to provide the perimeter defense at the two and knock down a few shots. Walsh seems to play it safe, but play it stupid at the same time.

Jennings is very impressive and gets people involved. He doesn't drive the lane and kick out. He scores, rebounds and can find the open man, not to mention being lighting.

This kid was a top 3 pick had he not gone to europe. I don't see why Walsh wasn't more aggressive even trying to get lawson. If you get creative you can get guys on the cheap like Ryan Anderson, Blair, Budinger.

Frankly the way I see it is if you play in the PAC 10 which is a ****ty conference and you are touted as a high selection and our not a freshman you should never be a bubble team. Walsh doesn't know how to build a team he just gets similiar parts. We don't have time to wait on guys, the time is now we need to put a product on the floor. Why walsh didn't go Jennings/Derozen and Blair we will never know. We would be in a great position if he just pulled the trigger on the nate deal and we could have had the core of Jennings-Chandler-Gallo-Blair-Lee.

I think that is what it boiled down to. Walsh was so focused on Rubio and Curry that he did not adequately evaluate Jennings' game. In fairness to Walsh, there were some questions about Jennings maturity and whether he was on the path to becoming the next Marbury. Plus, he was skinny and overmatched during workouts by the other PGs. But obviously, he has gained confidence since then and adjusted to the NBA game and is now simply ballin'.

the idiotic and stereotypical nature of the ny media and fanbase was on full display during the debate about drafting Jennings. "He is Marbury 2.0" wtf does that mean, like he or Steph are some kind of disease...

I agree with both of ya'll completely.

Care to give some examples?

Because I look at what he did with Steve Nash (going from occasional all-star to two-time MVP) or Chris Duhon (who really had no business looking as good as he did at times last season before breaking down in the second half) and I see a coach who gets the very most out of the PGs in his system.

Hill cant even get off the bench. He was horrible in summer league. What are we supposed to think?

Good post. What I bolded makes this so frustrating to watch. Its like they wouldnt even give Jennings a chance.

occasional all-star?

17 and 8 shooting 47% from the field 80-90 from th line and plus 40 from 3, 2 all-star appearcance, all nba 3rd team, 230-240 regular season wins including I believe 2 60 win seasons and a trip to the Conference Finals in his first 4 years as a full 82 game starter under Nellie...yeah D' Antoni had too put in alot of grunt work with Nash

Duhon stinks. he is the same player he was in Chi only with more usage.

who didn't develop as a pg: Barbosa - Banks - Van Exel - Duhon - Nate - Toney Douglas will be aded to the list if he and Mike are here the length of their contracts.

back on topic: MDA made a joke once about shooting Nate, Jennings personality doesnt seem like it would've been a good relationship here with the coach from the onset.
