This is by far the silver lining in what has been a bad start.

He got those points in garbage time. When the game was still on the line he was building brickhouses...

But yeah, if one must search for a silver lining, the overall point total is mildly encouraging. Perhaps he can build off that.

it was garbage time but it was also still against Miami's starting lineup, coach never took them out.

Yes he did. They came back when the Knicks got it to 19. You still have to give Gallo credit but the caveat there is do it when it counts. What I saw when it counts was 3 or 4 bricks that lead to fastbreaks.

BS briggs, one shot I know went right to lee, the other shot was at the end of the quarter, and another miss I know miami didn't run at all... you must have him confused with Al harrington AKA free candy...

A) He is pretty much a rookie so he is going to have good and bad games.
B) You know the Knicks organization and Walsh/D'Antoni in particular have a vested interest in making him look good so he will get tons of minutes and shots, kind of like the way Eddy Curry was featured a few years ago. This is going to skew things a bit.

the thing is, they don't feature him.. they don't run plays for him. He is just camping at the three point line..

Not exactly sure what MDA is doing but if I was coach I am watching and waiting to see if Gallo grabs the reins himself. It's pretty clear that Gallo is not really physically ready yet.

It's weird. We all know that Gallo was at best 70% last year. 28 games. Let's image if you will that he was drafted this year. Dude just hit 7-13 from downtown. If any other rookie did this we would all be going NUTS, but we hear complaints. WOW WOW WOW.

It's only game 1. Let's give him credit for shooting well when the game was well over-30 and let's hope that it will continue when the game is still in hand. He was horrible in pre-season and bricked his first few shots--while he is famous on Knick boards--he is not known in the NBA. When a team adjusts--aka plays a 6-8 athletic forward right up on him past the 3 point line--then we can gauge his shot. He had a Ton of wide looks when the game was done. I don't like someone taking 13 3's--who does that?

The point is shots and minutes. Do the Knicks run plays for anybody?

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

That's somewhat of my point... if you aren't running plays for anyone, why do you need a traditional PG? Why is Duhon even on the court?

I think I am missing what you are saying. What I am trying to convey is that no matter what Galinari will get lots of points and minutes even if there are more deserving players.

I went slightly off-topic. I don't know how you define 'deserving' but if Gallo can hit 50% from 3pt range, why let anyone else shoot from 3pt until they cover him on the perimeter? And, if he is getting those un-deserved developmental minutes as you appear to be saying, meaning that he is playing despite the fact that someone like Harrington is currently more able, I think it is important to look at his production and his +/- ratings. To see if he is actually developing. Right now, nobody puts up better +/- ratings than Gallo (through the games last year and this year that he played).

he can shoot the 3 - let's see if d'antoni starts to run some plays so he can get as many looks as possible from downtown...instead of just standing and waiting for it...

What did Gallo shoot from 3 in the first 8 pre-season games?
What did Gallo shoot when the game was within 10 points?
Let's let Gallo prove some things before we make proclamation's that he will shoot 50% from 3. 5 of his 7 three's came after we were down by 30

I can make up stats too. What did he shoot after 6 minutes into a quarter? End of the day is that he is the best 3pt shooter on the team. That's not some biased and hopeful statement. Its based upon watching him, his statistics and what the other players on the team and the coaches are saying about him. A statement of 50% from behind the arc has some hyperbole to it, but YOU of all people are going to call me out on that?

EwingsGlass, shooting from 3 and/or scoring are just a portion of the game. Hey, if Galinari ends up deserving to be the #1 offensive option I am fine with that. But my feeling is that he will be featured whether he deserves to be or not.

When Galinari did his thing yesterday for the most part the pressure was totally off. I don't think yesterday's game is a good indicator of much except that he can shoot very well when he is spotted up...He has to do it when the game means something and guys are really challenging him.

And I want more from him than just outside shooting. I understand that is his major skill, but we really need more than that.

HungLo wrote:So Briggs your saying it doesn't count when your behind by double digits ? So your saying NOBODY can ever come back from a big deficit ? Therefore it doesn't count ? Is it not crunch time when your trying to come back ? I would say the entire game is crunch time because your supposed to give max effort for the full 48 mins. Regardless of the score, you don't stop playing because your behind.

Im usually the first cat to say shyt like this, so I feel you but at the same time he looked awfully shaky in the first half. But perhaps Im just a little too emotionally involved with his progress.

But he is a rookie, essentially, and he's coming off major surgery. I think the Pro-Gallo crowd has it right on second thought.

ok, well lets be fair.. what you are saying then, is that our defense is really not bad at all, because the heat couldn't miss shots after they got up by 15 and the pressure was off, everyone was shooting loose..

So that is cool... it works both ways you know.. so I guess gallo wasn't that good and our defense wasn't that bad... Great, so I can just sweep this ugly performance under the rug.....

Don't disagree with you. I don't like that he stands at the 3pt line and chucks exclusively. He got 6 boards, but even that, we know, really was stat stuffing from the other Knicks throwing up bricks. He does alright on D, but he needs to develop more facets to his game. With the pressure on or off, Nate was 0-5, Al 1-6, Duhon 1-6 and Chandler 1-6 from beyond the arc. That game might be an aberration down for them as much as up for Gallo, but I am certain that if I am choosing whether those guys get to shot 3 for 23 from 3pt range, or Gallo gets to shoot more often, I let Gallo take those shots.

Gallo was just as open early on in the game when he was missing thos 3s than he was when he was hitting. The Knicks actually displayed some good ball-movement to get open looks from behind the arc. Miami's starters on the floor or no, didn't make a difference.

Problem is when the rest of the team is 3-26 on 3s but still continues to launch them like we have no other options on offense.

Thats just painful to watch.

I could have sworn that 4 or 5 of his threes during the run were off movement and picks that appeared to be designed specifically for him. I could be wrong.
