The Knicks are in good hands, Herb is in charge of the defense.

Let's not forget that MDA was winning games in the FREAKIN WESTERN CONFERENCE! He wasn't in the East putting up big win totals and he helped Nash get to MVP level, cuz goodness knows NO ONE was pegging Nash for a future MVP status before he got with MDA. Nash even credits MDA with teaching him so much about the game and for his part he fully implemented what MDA was teaching him. We just saw how the entire Olympic team LOVED MDA, so really is it him or our lack of talent that's the problem?

the knicks have fired more famous coaches than mda. if mda turns the knicks into the bricks he wont survive to midseason.

He had the perfect roster to be successful. The best big for his system and the best point and he still couldn't get it done. He experienced success but his system and style is flawed. He might be the best good offense beats defense coach of all time but he will not win a championship. I have followed basketball with an intense passion since the Ewing draft and I honestly cannot remember any team winning without playing good defense. There were balanced teams that were exceptional at both ends of the floor but never any teams with a philosophy of outscoring/out running and shooting the opponent.

The coach isn't going to have any letters left in his name if he stays with this team much longer.
If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

No coach can win without players! Heck Larry Brown wanted to trash the whole team and start over. You think he doesn't want a GM to get him his kind of players? A GM will always give a great coach what he needs and support him. Walsh picked him knowing who and what MDA is and what our roster is. Walsh's career is on the line too and he trusted the job to MDA. He won't judge him based on a flawed roster.

MDA does have a defensive system and tho he doesn't put defense 1st like LB or some other coach he does know teams have to defend to win.

get a grip you disco-dancing oscar-wilde-reading streisand-ticket-holding friends of dorothy.

We went through this last year. It took one corrective - djsu's thread telling miketoni to knock off the 3's and get some ball movement happenning.

Dj do your magic.

The rest of you reach down and find your nuts and calm the f**k down.

Best thing I've read here. Preach on!

I've been saying this D'Antoni and Walsh are not on the same page. If Walsh was not in a win-now mode he should have never hired D'Antoni he should have went with a rookie coach not pay a guy 10 million dollars to coach a team that is just not capable of winning.

So, what, you hire a rookie bum coach and then replace him when it's 'time to win'?? That's absurd. MDA was hired to establish a culture and a system. The players that can adapt and thrive in his system will remain with the team, the ones that can't will be gone. This is a process. You don't win instantly, bitty41.

Nice system he's establishing of setting the world record for the most missed 3pointers in a game. See if you can follow the logic for a moment here:

If you hire a coach at 10 million dollars a year you are doing so because you have the pieces in place to compete. Otherwise you are wasting money having a coach come in establish a system for a group of players who probably won't even be on the team in 3 years time. If the Knicks do sign a big free-agent then your are back at the drawing board because now you have to create an offense suitable to your marquee player.

Think about this the Knicks hired D'Antoni and still lost nearly 50 games. So how would it have been different if the Knicks hired a rookie coach other then it would have been vastly cheaper to pay him?

You're spiteful or foolish..or both.

What do you want? You want a championship this season? You want us to win 82 games in 2010? Get over yourself. No rational human can trash an entire system because in one preseason game the team went 7 for 41. That's insane. Pure insanity.

Why don't you go root for the Lakers or something, because all you're going to have rooting for the Knicks is a lot of stress. Winners aren't built over night. Respect the process.

Of course. When faced with anything other than your own narrow views, resort to insults, duhh. I bet you think Isiah had a great tenure here, too.
