Seiously I hope he has some non gimmicky ideas to improve the team. I'd start with an emphasis on defense.

A) How exactly is this a gimmick? This is the epitome of MANAGEMENT...creating what one hopes will be the most effective conditions for workers to succeed...i ain't saying it will work, but you have to try new things when you could see it working...

B) Have you been on hiatus during training camp and pre-season or something?...There has been a clear emphasis on defense that has been public and evident...even some critics of mda here have acknowledged it.

I'm quite calm, thanks, but your explanation follows a pretty odd line of use of the word gimmick, which is also generally an insulting way to describe something, if you ask me.

So an approach to team management is a gimmick if it fails, but not a gimmick if it works?

A gimmick is generally intended as not having a real effect, but to look or sound like it will.

I'm not going to argue that the Knicks are good defensively, but last game the defensive fg% against the celtics was quite low, even if we also struggled on offense. Douglas looks like a real defender, as does Milicic, and Nate with Toney seems like it has been a nice defensive combo.

What do you want a coach to do other than put an emphasis on defense, to...put an emphasis defense? You did write "an emphasis on defense."

I think that's exactly it. Instead of wasting time trying to come up with excuses for the guy being late or even bother having the negative publicity that comes with fining a player, especially one that's so pivotal to the offense this year, just cater to his needs. If anything, it'll make prospective 2010 free agents think New York is a place to go where players needs are taken care of and you're treated like a king.
