In a roundabout isn't this article more of a commentary on the risk the Knicks are taking in building a team at the 11th hour. The Knicks could either cash in, land some big free-agents or they could end up with egg all over their faces and unable with no big name free-agents. This is why I've always felt that an approach of building a team adding pieces over a span of time versus just focusing on one summer is risky at best and disastrous at worse.

I've said this before and I'll say it again if Lebron decides to leave Clev in lieu of NY the last thing that will be motivating that decision is the Knick's talent and wins. He have to be at the mindset that he's ready to join a major work in progress.

I think that's what Walsh has been doing this entire time. Worst case, we don't get any big time free agents in 2010, we still have a very solid young core that can be added to and molded. Contrast this to the shipwreck that preceded Donnie.

I think lee has a handshake deal with the old man and will be made good once our free agents are done. The big guys will get signed first and lebron my guess will have it figured out within two weeks of his recruiting trips.

I also think the amount of media attention is going to be huge so look for a tie in with a product launch. "Lebron" is not just a player but a brand franchise and the amount of attention he is and going to get is worth mega millions! Even if he is set on staying in Cleveland all along he would be a fool to abort such a opportunity to build his name even more!

DLee is such an effective player without the ball I think Lebron if he is serious would almost demand the guy stays. Look Varajo (Sp) does for cleveland and understand Dlee is better.

I think its important that our youth be looking good for any established vet to want to come here. The guys that spurned our offers this year really were using us for leverage and understand in two years they are gone anyway. Kidd wants to win THIS YEAR and GHill wants the same and not move his family. I have no problem with Kidd and Hill not coming here.

I think Darko is also very important and all we need is 10 and 10 with 2 blks per game and he could be just what the MDA game needs. Jordan Hill Still needs two years but thats ok.

Lebron knows he alone would not make us championship contenders right away. 2011 if we desire could also bring in another quality player.

wait, can they technically sign lee and robinson to a bigger multi-year deal next year AFTER they sign two other free agents? do their bird rights apply or does the team have to be maxed out from the beginning for it to take effect?

Lee and Robinson will have very large "cap holds." In order for the Knicks to have the cap space to sign someone like Lebron they will need to renounce their bird rights. Once they do that Lee and Nate will be unrestricted FAs with no bird rights. The thing that could really suck is Nate will go somewhere for a MLE deal (which we cant offer him) and the *might* have room to keep Lee. Hopefully they can get rid of Curry/JJ to get this done.

Well, it's looking more and more like we can possibly trade away JJ but not Curry. So long as he's this out of shape and can't return to the court, nobody will take him.

Perhaps we should go back to the Zach Randolph/Eddy Curry Isiah days. That would make you happy, I know.

MARK MY WORDS

Lebron James will be another BB player to use the Knicks to get a fatter paycheck, so you'll keep under the delusion of he's coming to NY. Build the team the right way, through the draft(which I really have my doubts with Walsh) and sign free agents. I myself like what Portland has done with their team. Also stop acting like a baby whenever someone post something you don't agree with, grow up. If you finished reading my post you would see that I said I missed the nineties how the **** could you equate that with the Thomas era.

Given the fact that Lebron has earned his Max status level and he is going to get paid the max I don't see how he would use the Knicks to get more $.

Because it ain't the ****ing 90's. That's 15 years ago. It's over. We've sucked for this decade. Live in reality. Live in the present. Did you really think you would be in such a good position to get a free agent during the 2007-08 season? Give credit where credit is due. This is the best approach to build a franchise that was literally the worst in sports when Isiah was fired. The draft? That means you would be OK with losing for the next 5 years at a minimum because that's how long it would take to accumulate the type of talent we need. Thanks to Isiah, we don't have a pick in 2010. This is not an option right now. You can wait around and play the pessimist negative nancy every damn day. I don't play that game. I was negative when guys like you were telling me how great Isiah was in all the seasons before 07-08. Back then I had a right to be negative. Now, there's no point in it. The team is essentially rebuilding the worst franchise in sports and you want them to do it your way or the highway. Well guess what my man? They're doing it their way and their way is the best course for the franchise. So sit back, relax, and quit whining. This goes for the other dudes complaining every time about Walsh.

This is true to an extent, but its not like I had to read it to realize it. We all know that our young guys must attract the talent because the losers like Curry, Marbury, and Richardson couldn't, its not rocket science.

right. everyone who is saying that lebron is just doing this for the attention are missing an important point: yes, of course he's doing it for the attention. but does anyone really think he wants that attention to stop? he wants the stage. if he re-signs with cleveland, it's a story for a day. if he signs in NY, it's the biggest free agent signing in history and gets him on the front page of every paper in the world for lots of stuff: his first home game, his first all-star game, his first 50pt game as a knick, his first playoff game as a knick. lebron knows this. and i think he wants it. you have to ask, if he wants this attention now... does he really want it to stop?

lebron is like shaq - he wants the stage. funny that the biggest free agent ever to move teams is shaq and cleveland brought him in for bron's last season under contract in cleveland. so, i guess bron can ask shaq everyday what it's like to move from podunkville to one of the biggest basketball markets in the world. brilliant front office move by cleveland again.

the cavs have had max cap space once in bron's tenure as a cav. they signed larry hughes. they traded him for a washed up ben wallace. they lost boozer for nothing. they've done a pretty bad job moving mountains to date.

lebron's current teammates include a starting "shooting" guard who was arrested for driving on a motorcycle with three loaded guns and a washed up shaq who can tell him all about what it's like to leave a small town team for the big city.

what on earth have the cavs done to entice bron to stay? sign maurice williams?
