MDA is trying to set a mindset and is building up morale and confidence. Would the nay sayers like it better if he said they all stink.

Instilling confidence into players is a huge part of potential success. But to the fans, it doesn't mean much. We want to see results on the court because we are the paying customers.
yea.. and there has to be good talent behind it. Isiah told Marbury how great he was all time. Whoop de do.

I do trust in MDA and DWs ability to build a better culture. 10+ wins last year I thought we certainly saw some of that

Gallo is the best shooter he has ever seen, etc. I'm not buying it till I see it. Hill reminds him or Amare. Give me a break. That one is going to be a whiff by Walsh should have tried to hit the home run there.

I hope the kid gets 15 minutes a night puts up 6pts 4ass 1stl. We need the kids to really play, looking forward to seeing Gallo in action.

the reason Douglas should get minutes:

How many games did we win last year?

Even Hill should get time, but clearly it is more crowded up front.

This year should be about building and developing- anything else is - lets be real- fooling ourselves.

Let Douglas play, make mistakes, and grow this year.

And, who is playing the point again for us next year?

Let's be real. He was the 29th pick.

The percentage of a 29th pick being a GOOD player has to be 5-10%.

David Lee falls into this slim percentage imo.
yes.. but of those late first rounders how many are guards? Most I would say. Its always the same arguement. Small explosive college player, will the lack of size hurt you at the next level?

I believe at the combine Douglas was the fastest and quickest player in the draft. He was ACC defensive player of the year while posting a 20ppg scoring average with good shooting %s.

But is he a 6'2 SG or can he play point?

He could def be our Rondo.

I'm just looking forward to a wing player who defends... and defends well.

Fastest player in the combine, ACC defensive player of the year. All of which leads to the 29th pick. I'm sorry, but there are some questions with this guy. Its not all peaches.

you can say the same thing about pick 1-30.....

in the Summer League he just looked like he didn't have much of a shot, but he did stroke it in college.

That SL team was such a mess that it's hard to take anything away from what we saw.

We'll have to see this kid in regular NBA action to get a real read on him.

I thought the bigger story in this article was D'Antoni's dismissal of Hill. He basically said that he is not ready to play at this level yet, which iis completely unacceptable for a top 10 pick. Top 10 picks should be ready to play immediately. Knicks should have traded down, if all they were going to do was draft a lemon.

not really. Lot of top 10 picks that came off the bench for a while. Also, Hill has a lot of dudes which experience ahead of him.

I don't think coming off of the bench for Hill is the question, its, is he ready to play - period.

Well, MDA is obviously a very optimistic guy, and that's a good thing. But it's a bad thing for fans who don't realize that he is above-average in optimism and take everything he says as the stone cold truth.

I think Hill is someone that will need to grow into his body and buildup 10-15 pounds of muscle before we will really see what we got. He is fast for a 6'10" guy, has good defensive instincts, and can hit a 15" jumper. He, however, gets overpowered alot and still seems ackward in his movements and decision-making. If his mind and body come together, I think he could be a good player and solid starting PF. Since we have a bunch of players than can play PF for now, I don't think it was a bad pick.

It's pretty clear that Douglas "slipped" because he was seen as a SG. Also, there were quite a few PG's in the draft so that made overlooking or investigating Douglas all the more likely. Douglas played PG in HS I believe, but he was asked to score a lot in college. If anyone is not aware he made his team into something in large part through his scoring, defense and all around play.

What we have seen is not an aberration. Douglas is a heady VERY HARD WORKING player, much like Lee in that sense. IF Douglas was just a good pg in college, with his scoring and defense, he would have been picked MUCH higher, no one can argue that. People slide for different reasons, they also grow at different speeds. I think with Douglas, he was just "grouped" as a short SG and slipped through the radar, as there are just too many short "SG's" who light it up in college but have no place to go in the nba. Hopefully what we see continues.

You know, I just get the feeling that with his background, character, IQ and work ethic that the kid is going to succeed. Good things happen when you draft talented, heady and hard working guys.

Well, this was a weak draft anyway. Hill was pretty much all that was left. It definitely didn't help matters when Golden State and crazy old senile Don Nelson inexplicably picked Stephen Curry.

I agree with those who say that TD has the right stuff but just fell in the draft due to being tagged as a short SG. They didn't do their homework, cuz the guy was asked to score for a very poor offensive team. He did that and was a leader as well as a great defender. You can't ask for more. Walsh was on his game and found a gem late in the draft much like Isiah was able to due for us.

All this clamour about MDA's statements seems to be a bit overdone. MDA is saying the kid can BACK UP for us. He didn't say he was a budding All Star Starter. He just said the kid looks like he can help us this year. I would think that MDA knows what the hell he's talking about when it comes to guards! He had one of the greatest guards ever in Nash. We should be happy that the reports are positive instead of us still having a HUGE ? at the back up PG position. Between Nate, TD and possibly Yue we may be able to patch this thing together and keep Duhon rested.

MDA may also be attempting to light fires under Nate, Douglas' competition for backup PG, and Hill, Douglas' draft partner who was chosen 21 picks ahead of Douglas, while also trying to stroke Douglas' ego and confidence. Coaches always play mind games with their players- don't see MDA as being any different.

Douglas was tight and tentative when shooting during SL- to me his problems were more mental than physical. He will eventually find his comfort level and be a solid rotation player in the league, IMO- hopefully sooner, rather than later, so he can give us 10-18 MPG, and keep Duhon at about 30-35 MPG
