jack sikma was a force in this league. a first-rate center who led a team to a championship. as much as we want to have hopes for darko i'd say it's not reasonable to assume that he’ll ever be even 50% of jack sikma.

(i know earl, you said "model," but still i gotta stand up for the integrity ok sikma's career).

Marv - understood. You know I was suggesting a skill set that Darko could emulate, not necessarily that he could REACH the level of Sikma... but a skill set that D'Antoni could live with in reasonable facsimile form.

The step back jumper was a thing of beauty

You may as well ask Eddy Curry to emulate the skill-set of Dikembe Mutombo while you are at it.

Jack Sikma was the best shooting center of all time. Darko Milicic, in his best year as a pro, had an eFG% of .256 on jumpers. Doesn’t compute. I guess they are both tall and white.

Darko will be a defensive roll-player for us. Look for him to average about 1.5 blks per game in 20 minutes. That would be great.

Let’s keep things real.

The only hope for Darko is if let's him be what he is, a high post player

Where are people getting this idea that Darko is a high post player? The guy shoots 58% on free-throws.

I'm being forced to bag pretty hard on the kid here and I actually like what he can bring to the Knicks. Just don't look at what you think he should be and look at what he is.

RemBee - the comparison was made from the standpoint that Sikma made a decent living with one dependable move.

Darko could develop one similar 12 foot-range move and do well in NYC. Nowhere did I say Darko would BE Sikma.

Of course, I might beg to differ that Kareem was the best shooting center of all time but who's counting?

Then again, if Darko averages 8 points a game there just might be dancing in the streets

Darko already proved he can avg 7 ppg and I would think he could get to 10 in this offense if they get him involved. He can do a lot of what DLee can cuz he's mobile enough to get the ball and finish off pick n rolls.
This is the best offense he could hope for to have a chance to succeed! If he can't get it going here he never will.

Sorry Answerman. The comparison is just whack however you dice it. We are comparing the offensive game of a center who made a living off of shooting the three to a guy who attempted a total of 5in six years in the league (and didn't hit any of them).

I suspect that the comparison comes from the same complexion preconception that has many assuming that Darko is a “sweet” shooting tall Euro who will feast in D’Antoni’s offense from the top of the key when he is actually an uber-athletic lunch pail guy with a dirty mouth who plays D.

Just trying to set this straight.

Absolutely right marv. I was a sikma fan even thougH I only caught the back end of his career. I just have high hopes for Batman. It would be a stretch to think he can drop 18/13 with great assist and blocks in year one.

I mentioned okur and brad miller though and they are a step down from sikma. Both brad and okur had a few mediocre seasons before trades allowed them to really blossom and showcase their skills. I'm hoping Batman can finally get it. 12/8 with like 2 assists and 1.5 blocks is attainable

Eddy and dikembe don't share the same skillset so the joke makes no sense. Curry should in the very least have a career like chocolate thunder....that wouldn't be a stretch but comparing his lazy ass to anyone is a stretch.

As far as shooting big men, sikma is up there but I think hakeem, Ewing, willis reed might have something to say.

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Serbian Heritage Night

The beauty of Darko Milicic is the fact the Knicks have a precise need in the frontcourt. He does not need to do anything special other than rebound and play fierce defense. Both are a by-product of passion and conditioning.

From the look in his eyes, it would seem that he will welcome the challenge on Broadway.

The only question is his basketball IQ
