I watched Darko when he was in Orlando. The dude is a solid center with decent shot-blocking and defensive instincts. His problem was that he could not put it together consistently every game. Alot of young players go through that. I don't see him playing more than 22-24 minutes a game for us next year, but if he can block 2 shots a game and pose an obstacle for guards driving to the lane, he is worth his weight in gold. Chandler, Hughes, and Harrington are decent defenders. Duhon at the start of the season was solid. If Nate and Lee can improve slightly, with the addition of Darko and some renewed focus from the coaching staff on defense, we should be able to turn this team into an average defensive team, which is all we need since we are above-average on offense.

That's the MDA formula! Rock on O and play decent on D. WIN GAMES. The vibe i'm getting from Waltoni is that they quietly feel good about the team. I think they feel they can make enough noise this year to attract a FA next summer. It's all about Gallo & Chan showing real promise as future stars. Nate and Lee have at least shown that they are legit NBA players. Now we have to win games! If the team does well enough that may be enough to convince a FA that if they came here they could be the difference in making this team get into title contention. That has to be the plan, cuz what else besides money would we be offering a FA. There has to be some solid grounds for building a winning team for a FA to be convinced.
The key for this year to to show marked improvement and get into the playoffs. Try not to get swept and that should be enough to peak a FA's interest. Given the other positives of being the star in a huge market like NY.
