Hahn now saying a Robinson deal has been put on hold for the time being but seems imminent. Also it looks like they may have gotten Nate to waive that no trade right. Or maybe that's what's holding things up. If we can get Nate and maybe even Lee back on 1-yr. deal minus their veto power, that's a homerun.

I dont see any reference to waiving veto rights... did I miss something?

Sorry I misread it. My bad.

Given that we missed out on Sessions, this deal had to go through if we want to make the playoffs. Nate is the key to our second unit. Most teams don't have backup pgs that can score at his level. He just needs to continue to work on defense and turnovers.

Calm down.
You obviously didn't even read my point on Bogans at all if you're running with this in such a manner.

I like the idea of retaining Nate.

Yet, performance bonuses? Paying him more on a 1 year deal when the QO was there for him to either take - or - sit out the year?

Whereas this 1 year deal still gives him the option to veto trades and walk away for nothing next year anyway?

A contract that gives him the idea that he needs to inflate his stats as much as possible in order to get the biggest contract offer possible next summer?

I don't know...I mean...this just sounds like a problem in the making.

Who pays someone more money to do the same job they are already under contract for - for less money? Why give a player known to go solo a monetary reason to go solo more often? Why reward a player who still has work to do to become a player worthy of a big pay day?

I would have thought we would have told Nate that we're obviously the only team willing to give him the 2.9M his QO offer is worth - and take it or sit out the year.

I don't see the value in a good faith contract when there is no guarantee to his rights as a result.

Excellent post, makes no sense from a business point of view. Give him the QO, take it or leave it. Endo fo discussion, same for Lee. Anything else is would be considered shooting yourself in the foot.
TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

I believe there is a difference.

I believe the cap hold on the $2.9M qualifying offer is $8.7M or (3.0X the value of the $2.9M).

I also believe that if Knicks sign him to a larger 1-year deal (say $4.0M) the cap hold would be $6.0M (or 1.5X the value of the $4.0M).

So Nate makes 38% more this year but Knicks cap hold is 31% lower than on the qualifying offer.

At least that is my understanding.

Right, there's a lower caphold if you sign him above the QO or more than league average.

Charlotte gets the same deal with Felton i think. The difference is Felton's QO is above league average.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

That is interesting to say the least. That is quite a price to pay to have more flexibility in 2010 for a player that can walk away without compensation anyway - or - a player whose rights you can waive thus also dropping the cap hold, but, it's interesting.

It's Alan Hahn, ergo, it's not a done deal.

Is $4 mil the league average?

It's usually somewhere between 4.5 and 5.5 or something like that, correct?

I figured give him just under and those performance incentives will help work things out for him, money wise.

An easy way to identify the league average is to look at the MLE... it is set at the league average.
You know I gonna spin wit it
