I do agree with Briggy that we should grow our own, but we need a top three pick to make that work! And we seem to not be able to do so or we have dumb asses who trade the pick away!

It would be nice to tank this year and get our pick but we don't have it.

Few players are worth doing this for. Lebron is a generational talent.

YOu could get oden, or you could get beasley as your top picks also. YOu could bank on getting timmy duncan as did the Celtics and the ping pong balls don't go your way.

getting a franchise player is hit or miss opportunity plain and simple and cant be planned for. A good team will take advantage, a bad one will blow it. Sometimes the best guy is Barganani or Bogut. Other times you miss Duncan and #2 is Van Horn. If the Nets didnt trade for Kidd they would have been building around Kmart.

Briggs can harp stiff legs all he wants but Knicks took the high ceiling player in Gallinari.

I don't think it would be bad for the sport in Lebron came here. In fact, it would help the NBA to bring him to a major market. I just don't think it is going to happen.

and don't forget twhen we had the #2 chicago used it on lamarcus aldridge and then traded him for tyrus thomas. hardly franchise level talents.

i'm 100% for getting lebron if we can.

Its not even debatable. 7 years in Cle is enough. I rest my case on the Shaq example. I also dont think this is a case of putting all our eggs in one basket and hoping for a Lebron bailout. I think the moves leading to a Lebron opportunity make good BB sense when you looks at the Knick's problems over the last 8 years. This team needs a roster that has some fiscal consistency with the rest of the league. It needs a style of play and a plan. 3 things that have not been here since Ewing was patrolling the paint.

and it's much easier to build around a superstar. look, either you get lucky and get one in the draft or you play it smart and use the things you can to lure one as a free agent. it's not a bad plan. it'd be an even better plan if we had a 2010 lotto pick to look forward to.

Lebron is not a starphuck.

Celts for KG was, and it only worked cuz they got Allen ahead. Pierce was a malcontent in the Marbury sense but his was made better in many ways by bringing in talent around him.

Celts got their shallow ring and for what its worth thats for celt and their fans to decide. KG ran out of gas last year and perhaps they are finished due to age.

I prefer to rebuild and with youth which is what we are doing. Cap space will allow for more opportunities either by sign and trade or outright signing.

Cris Paul can outright say "PHuch this" in NO and want out. Can't do a thing without cap flex and some assets.

This direction has no clear horizon which is hard for many fans to see.

aw c'mon re pierce. i know you diss him because of that selfish technical he got in the playoffs a few years ago, but the guy was the best player on the floor during the nba finals and led his team to the ring. marbury has led himself to sing along with barbie videos.

There may not be many of us--but I will speak out. I don't want him to leave Cleveland--that's his team and his fans--millions of Clev fans. Think about if Lebron was a Knick and wanted to leave and then you will see what I am saying. It wrecks the sport. If Clev didnt want to pay him or werent going all out to win--then I would have a different opinion--but they are going all out and the fans are all in. If he leaves he's an arsehole especially to a team who is clearly in the shtter.
I hope Lebron has some character and loyalty to something other than himself. I like to build I dont like to steal.

I understand the concept. I understand the satisfaction of building your own team. I understand all that. That being said, if Lebron is here I'm pretty sure we all will be cheerign as loudly as we would if we built from scratch.

Winning is about building your team. There are three ways to acquire players and build a team. You can do it in the draft, via trade, and via free-agency. As a fan of sport I've seen all my teams take advantage of all of these avenues. personally I don't give a rats asse how my team actually builds a title team. I just want them to do it.

Except that barbie thing never happened. Supposedly.

What happens if Lebron leaves Clev for NY and the whole thing is a complete failure? The Knicks become just a playoff team that can't make it past the 2nd round, the NY papers rake Lebron over the coals on a daily basis, and the Knicks don't have the necessary cap space to bring in a better supporting cast?

Or has everyone just dismissed this as a impossibility?

I cannot imagine a team going very far with subpar defense, no consistent outside shooting, and medicore to poor point guard play. Does everyone that much confidence in Walsh that he will address this all in a year with very limited assets and no draft picks? I think anyone believing that if Lebron signs here it will just be apart of the rebuilding process is deluding themselves. There is absolutely no doubt that immediate expectations for the Knicks will be to win a title.

if LeBron settles into NY next season, the Knicks will have Curry and JJ still coming off the cap, which is about room for another max contract.

If Lebron was a Knick for 5 years--drafted him--grew up with him--had success with him--very early in his career--as a fan would you care if he opted to leave our team for no apparent reason?
If Dolan was putting out the money helping the management do everything it could to try to help Lebron win--how would you feel if he got up and left? It's like Michael Jordan leaving the Bulls after 5 years or Larry Bird leaving the Celtics. The KG example is dumb--number 1 he was traded for a kings ransom and number 2 he already spent his 13 years there. Shaq is the only guy who has done this but Shaq could care less about anyone else but Shaq--and that is obvious. How could Lebron disappoint so many fans --so many kids--for what? If there was 1 legitimate reason for him to leave Cleveland--I wouldnt care but that isnt the case. If Cleveland wants to trade us Lebron James---Ok great--but leaving for no apparent reason--atleast to me is brutal and I hope he does not do it. This has nothing to do with the Knicks or any other club--we wouldnt want it done to us--nor do I want to wish it on other fans.

Does this take into account Lee and Robinson resigning with the team? I'm honestly asking cause I really don't know.

I see the point that Briggs and others are making and I respect the sentiment, but I'm just too prejudiced towards the Knicks to even begin to hope that LeBron doesn't join our team.

This is a bunch of horseshyt. I dont give a damn about Cleveland, just like they dont care about us. This is business, never personal and there are things that NY can do for Bron that Cleveland could never hope to do.

LOL at feeling bad for a multi-million dollar franchise. There are more important things worth your sympathy. As far as the children...well they can still enjoy Lebron. Just in a different jersey. haha.
