Off topic - do you know any good resources on how to build integrated financial models? My MBA program did some basic DCF modeling but nothing complex and I think I need to learn that stuff ASAP.

Yessir. Aswath Damordaran, the NYU professor, is the valuation guru. Any book by him is gold. This is his personal xls collection, which I weave into my models ALL THE TIME. I think this book is awesome for a quick explanation of why/how you should model certain things certain ways...

hope this helps

Wow, glad to hear you are on your way, literally. I think fondly of your post asking for advice and almost going to Qatar.

lol, yeah, I learned something very important from that experience... keep your mouth shut until you have a signature on the dotted line. Same company as that potential Qatar project though, that one just never got off the ground

Posted by TMS:

congrats on the exciting new venture bro. wouldve liked to grab a drink in dc with ya before u left but im sure u will be busy with preparations for ur trip. best of luck over there and keep us posted of ur adventures out there.

Dude, I've been drinking like it's going out of style... yeah, I'm running around like a maniac but if it can be worked out let's work it out. I just need a taste

Posted by JohnWallace44:

Wow, how soon into the interview did they ask if you were comfortable going to Libya?

Congrats. You should be able to travel to some nice areas from there.

As previously mentioned this company told me Qatar was a viable option but that project never got off the ground... so when they mentioned Libya I told them I was very interested because I thought it was bull... c'est la vie

A rare victory for supreme. Congrats and give them hell over there in the Barbary States.

Thank you... you need to go to the next uk gathering because I'm sure something crazy will happen after you rip a few shots

my college friends "joke" about taking a life insurance policy out on me... I'm pretty sure I'm going to get caned and/or stoned by an angry mob

Figured it was a slow Knicks day so figured I'd share the good news with everyone... because I also shared the bad news everyone. Before I get into that though, I just want to thank everyone that posted in the other thread because that was really one of my hardest moments. Specifically I's like to thank jimimou and Briggs... the former is just the man and the latter was pretty harsh about just getting a job, but those comments helped me realize that I wasn't so special and needed to pick up my skirt, grab my sack, and do what needs to be done. So thank you.

Once I waited tables at P.F. Chang's I was able to tell future employer's when they asked what was I doing with my time that "I'm a waiter right now, not what I want to do long term, but I'm getting the best tables in the restaurant because my sales volume speaks for itself" (true) instead of "I sit at home and goof off on ultimateknicks.com inbetween sending out CVs and cover letters to other prospective employers" (true). So for anyone in the same situation, I would encourage you to get a job because the employed are infinitely more attractive to potential employers than the unemployed.

As for the job, I leave for Tripoli, Libya on September 9. it's one year contract with a mutual option for a second. I'll have some finance functions, but the primary responsibility will be to iron out the wrinkles in their invoicing system... it's taking waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many steps.

Interestingly enough, Libya wants an international basketball team and NCAA hoops is a big deal there (awesome). Hopefully I'll be able to share some of those basketball stories with y'all.

Sorry for posting this in the main forum but nyk4ever and Allanfan20 asked before so I just figured it was a good day to share the good news.

congrats again on the new job and good luck out there....oh and thanks for the shout out man, glad i could help you.

Nice job Supreme! I bet that will be a great time for you. Take an African Safari while you're at it!

Supreme.. congrats bro, I'm so glad for you - it's rough out there. I remember back a minute that you were talking about taking a job overseas, so I guess somehow in the end, you'll end up overseas anyways.

Either way good luck dude, always log in here and keep us informed! I woulda posted on here earlier, but I've had a exciting past few days myself (not in a good way as my grandmother died and yesterday was the wake and today the funeral.)

You know where to turn to if you're having trouble getting adjusted over there - we have some pretty worldly travelers on this site and if not for some tips, then just for some laughs if you're missing home.

Good luck bro.

Congrats. Your boss will be here next month.
ENGLEWOOD, N.J. — At a run-down estate on Palisade Avenue here, construction workers and landscapers clamber around in what appears to be a hurried top-to-bottom, inside-and-out makeover — all in anticipation of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi and his traveling tent.

Colonel Qaddafi, the Libyan leader, will be coming next month to address the United Nations, and the logistics of his stay are complicated by the Bedouin-style, air-conditioned tent that he uses to greet visitors. In a visit to Russia, for example, the tent was pitched in a garden at the Kremlin; in Rome, a public park.

Colonel Qaddafi had wanted to plunk his tent down in Central Park, but New York officials rejected the idea. Next on the list was the Libyan-owned estate on Palisade Avenue, which would produce one of those only-in-America cultural collisions.

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

This guy travels around the world and pitches tents in presidents' back yards? this is very funny to me.

i used to work for a tent rental company in englewood, i wonder if he brings his own tent or rents when he lands.

Remember to use your Irish passport. Everyone loves the Irish. If you don't have one, maybe Canadian? Or Swiss?

Good luck. Always remember to wear your seat-belt.
