Sign Iverson to the mid-level for a year team option.....Sign Lee for a year...sign sessions for 2-3 years via sign and trade. yada yada yada....Knicks make the playoffs and I get a Playoff war against Clevland, Boston, Wizards, or Miami

16 teams will have money next year why couldnt he get big money with someone else? I dont any player would sign a one year deal with a team option if they could be unrestricted the next year

yes, after all the big offers he's turned down this summer i'm sure he must be very confident about next summer's market.

What does Lee wanna do? Is he gonna except the qualifying offer or does he want to squeeze more out the Knicks for a year...are the Knicks even allowed to extend a restricted guy for only a year?

i'd sign lee and nate to one year deals. and try to get iverson to do the same. if not him, sign sessions.

Signing all these guys makes sense to me...but the knicks supposedly still want 2 free agents in 2010. with the cap all funny worst case scenerio would be the Knicks barely even having enough for one major free agent. There's other ways of doing stuff man...I understand the Lebron sweepstakes is real but the Knicks have an opportunity to get better this year...

don't know where you get 16 teams from cause that's not even close to being realistic. Here is a good reference: http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/insider/columns/story?columnist=ford_chad&page=CapSpace2010-090807

Realistically, NJ, NY, MIA, CHI (if they outright renounce Ty Thomas and Lee doesnt mind playing front court with Noah), Oklahoma, Houston have enough money to go after Lee. All of those teams have space and a need at PF.

Here are the players that Lee will realistically compete against: Boozer, Amare, Bosh, Tyson Chandler. http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/insider/columns/story?columnist=ford_chad&page=2010FreeAgents-090803&addata=2009_insdr_mod_nba_xxx_xxx

The way it looks right now is the knicks will explore sign and trades or let Lee play a year and lose him for nothing. They could also try and resign him if they dont get lebron next year.

I am not worried about the market next year there are teams that want to sign and trade for him right now and give him a good contract. I want him to lead the Knicks to the playoffs this year

Arkrud wouldnt it make more sense to try and trade David last year inbstead of letting him play on a one year deal. Lee has all veto rights to any trade this season

It depends on the contract. He won't hold any veto rights if they put a team option on year 2 of a contract.

right, but David would first have to sign that type of contract, which is iffy at best.
OK, play for the QO at around 3 mil or a 2 yr $18 mil contract with the 2nd year a team option. It's not a hard choice. He'll be an FA one year later and probably be a top 2 or 3 FA big man instead of 5 or 6

No way a agent would do that deal when you can be unrestricted at the end of the year and there is a market for you.

kinda like there was a market this year? For the last 6 months you and Briggs have been harping on and on about all these teams with cap space and how we were losing Lee and stupid not to extend, etc etc

How much is Lee getting next year? $10mm? Most of the teams with cap space will be trying to resign their own FAs first and foremost. There are only a handfull of teams that will be bidding on guys and lets face it... Lee is a good player but as far as this FA crop he's middle of the road at best

Make it a players option and then it would be a fair deal

If they sign him to a QO and you get nothing for him then it has been bad management by Walsh. How do you let a 16/12 guy go for absolutely nothing when you could have trade last year?

this is the dilemma for all teams.

Same for Amare, Bosh, Boozer, Ben Gordan, Warrick. Same for Wade, LeBron.

It's part of the business. These guys either have or can leave their teams.

As many times as he can get in while Lee is on the team....just think.....no thanks to Lee, King could've been on ultimategrizzlies.com 2 years ago...

The QO is best-case for the Knicks (which I said about Nate and Lee midseason and got skewered--where's that search function Bip). They get a year of service, don't impact the cap for next offseason, and can work out a long term deal if the other, better options dry up. Next offseason is going to be a buyer's market and really limits the risk of letting the two hit thr open market

Standard tactic for avoiding the truth: Don't ever answer the question asked. Answer the question you want them to have asked.

For a while, long long ago, in a UK far away, King shared real insight in his posts. These days it's nothing but low-budget Lee spam. Doesn't even mix it up to make it interesting.

Ok, someone clear the cap hold issue for me because it is my understanding that if Lee and Nate take the QO, their cap holds will be twice or considerably more than their actual contract, depending on the number. Therefore, if the Knicks wanted to have the whole cap space to use, they would have to renounce to their rights. If they do that, they would likely let them go for nothing unless they had space for more than one max deal and ran out of options. But keeping either of them under those circumstances seems unlikely.
