I think the lineups sans LeBron are pretty similar - I will include Lee and not Nate.

What I do think you have to take account for is the fact that LeBron makes players better around him. I think Chandler and Gallo get the biggest boosts, same for Lee. I think Gallo would jump up a level or two if he were playing with LeBron, he would get so many easy and wide open jumpers, it wouldnt even be funny. I also think Gallos court vision would mesh nicely with LeBrons. Chandler/LeBron might clash but I think they would work it out offensively. I think Darko gets a nice bump. He's already a good shotblocker and rebounder, I think he even gets more easy baskets... same goes for Lee, he would get even more easy baskets.

I think the lineups are pretty similar and I do think LeBron would really take to this system and that these guys on the roster would be excellent to play MikeD's style WITH LeBron.

what position does gallo play? what position will he defend in the post season?

LOL at bolded.

And why are you including Lebron. The whole point is to see which supporting cast is better.

you forgot about shaq...

You're right... Darko = Shaq in 3009-3010

i had to edit it to make sure it's clear to others...

I think Gallo offensively plays the 2 and defensively plays the 3. His D last year wasn't THAT bad. His man/man D could use some work for sure, but he was playing at like 50% so I do think his lateral movement will improve a bit. I still think he gets beat defensively, but I don't think it'll be that bad.

and are you guys including nate + lee in your analysis?

Until they go to another team, yes.

but we can't sign them along with LeBron so that's a false assumption

Too many hypotheticals...because we can if we trade either Curry or Jeffries. And it also depends how much they sign to.

We have extra 2 players and they 3 roster spots.
We do have more players because they have LeBron

I'm not trying to be smart but right now Ray Allen and Vince for the most part are just jumpshooters.. joe johnson I'll give you though.

hmm...lets see, well for starters their second best option, Mo Williams, is almost exactly equivalent to Nate Robinson.

The Cavs big men are comprised of cats that are either over the hill - Wallace, immobile - Illgauskas, or marginally talented energy players - Verajao. Darko is better than all three.

I'll give them the nod at PG, Delonte knows what he's doin, but thats a slight nod. The Knicks have a way more talented squad and if we're dealing with hypotheticals at this point, I dont see how one couldnt surmise that Knicks would be better.

ok.

what would the knicks starting 5 look like and their rotation. the cavs are a half court defense first team. the knicks would have a much different look. who plays where?

PG Duhon < West
SG Nate = Mo
SF Bron = Bron
PF Lee >>>> Verajao
C Darko >> Illgaukaus

Would have to trade either Hughes, Chandler, or Harrington with Bron that would create a logjam. Probably Harrington --- we could probably get something good for him. Probably another big.

Our bench of Gallo, Hughes, Hill, Chandler, Curry would at its absolute worst be slightly as Joe Smith, Powe, Wallace, Sasha P, Wally z...but more than likely would crap all over the Cavs if they realize their potential.

you forgot shaq, anthony parker and jamario moon.

[Edited by - djsunyc on 08-11-2009 9:31 PM]

Damn, I dont know shyt about the cavs.

Alright then I'll substitute Shaq in at Center and give you the edge at that position. That makes the starting lineup virtually even, slightly leaning towards you guys, but remember Lee is way better than Varejao so who knows.

Our bench is what kills...we'd have crazy firepower comin off the bench. Cavs are just ok.

or will the team just try to outscore everybody?

vince + ray post up shorter guards and feast on them. if you stack nate + duhon on top of each other, they're not strong enough to stop them.

my bad DJ.. didn't pay enough attention. Against shorter guards like that - for sure they would feast. My bad.

Thats an opening game lineup...now if Hughes or chandler would make for a more physical backcourt in the playoffs then that would be up to Pringles and his adjustments. He'd have the flexibility to do so with our roster.

But Mo Williams really wasnt stoppin anybody and it worked for the Cavs

i'm asking these questions b/c the sentiment around here is that it's a given that the knicks have a better roster than the cavs.

imho, i think alot of the roster will have to change and that will take 2-3 years after the lebron signing. nothing wrong with that but just trying to counter the initial sentiment.

I think it all depends. I mean right now yeah it sounds ****ed up to have a PF or something guard a SG, but it's all relative. If you're going up against a team and there best offensive player is a SG/SF then I think Chandler/LeBron are more than capable of guarding that position. Ok, so yeah Danilo has to guard a 4 and maybe that 4 is a good player and feasts on Gallo, maybe he's not a great offensive player and Gallo is able to hold him in check.

I guess my point is, I don't know if you can just blanket say who guards who on paper when certain guys might be better or worse at positions.

it's funny, I was looking at the roster for CLE in 2010, and there is VERY little wiggle room for them when Z and Shaq expire. IMHO, they MUST move Z this season for another player if they want to stay competitive. Look at their roster for 2010, it sucks and they are capped out.

but what about 2011? i don't think 1 year of cap if they don't trade the expirings is going to sway a player's opinion b/c i don't think it matters. they can lure melo or paul to that sh t city, no?
