I'll still root for the Knicks, but something about seeing the word "Brooklyn" emblazoned on an NBA jersey brings a certain form of satisfaction.
and jersey sales!
Some of old schooler claim the 70's. Great Knick teams I saw in the last 73' run, and two Net championships in the ABA. I saw the lost ABA game, a great come from behind to win the last ABA championship.
The knicks turned down Doc J for payment of reparations to enter the NBA. Layden was in Jr High school then! Not his gig. They sold Him to philly, and that was very tramatic to us Net fans. Back then, the Knicks were the class, but the nets were the renegades and put on a hell of a show. The NBA was scared of the ABA talent. Nets selling Dr. J was worse than selling babe ruth!
But the split was we loved both the teams and they did not compete in the same league. ONce the Nets hit the nba, they quickly became a joke, moved to Jersey, which we thought was very silly.
Being from Brooklyn, I could see an affection for that team if they moved there. I would not expect this current team to be together much in 4 years. The team would be dead meat in jersey, and should play out on LI. They would draw better.
Im glad we got a team back in the carolinas...........
