We have to have someone at point guard in 2010/11. So the idea of not signing anyone long term doesn't wash unless they feel sure about Douglas being the guy.

after signing your key fa's, you can then pursue a pg through trade or MLE.

but isn't it easier to pursue FAs with more of a core intact? there aren't too many PGs in the big class of 2010.

FYI - its not really that "big" a class anymore

why not? all the guys i want are still there.

We don't have to have a star at PG. What we need is a guy that can help us to win. We've got scorers and finishers all over the place on this team. Having an unselfish PG who can get to the rim and thus keep defenses off balance is PERFECT for this team. Yeah he needs to improve his shot but it's not so bad that he's ineffective. I think he's gonna be a welcome addition if we add him.

What I think has been a real advantage is that Dan D'Antoni knows the kid well. I think they know he's got the right mentality to learn and flourish in our system. Holding out for 2010 is nice, but you also have to still try to build a team in the event that things don't completely workout at that time. I think Sessions, Darko and an in shape Curry should be enough to propel this team up the standings and at least give FA's the idea that it's not a bad nucleus.

nix - how can you say the words "an in shape Curry" and not be laughing into your coffee cup??? or whatever else you’re drinking to inspire your typing those words?

i think Sessions is a good fit because of his ability to take the ball to the rim. he can get to the foul line and create havoc on the pick and roll. this team was pretty solid in december and january when Duhon was getting to the rim a lot - it opened up the pick and roll/pop for Dlee. when Duhon slowed down, the offense became unbearable to watch. we NEED a guy to create on the pick and roll in this offense and Sessions is a perfect fit. if he could hit 3pts at 35% or so he wouldn't be available.

if Gallo can play and create, it's a bonus. until then, we need a guy who can drive and create spacing for others. i'd like sessions first and foremost and i think Iverson is not a bad one year backup plan. one or the other. let's see what happens.

I like Sessions. The kid will be a definite upgrade over Duhon with the potential to become a very solid pg for us. Simply put, we need a full-time pg in 2010 and between Nate, Duhon, and Sessions, I would have to believe Sessions is the better longterm prospect as our main ball-handler. If Walsh can get him to sign a deal starting at $5 mill per season, I would give him 5yr/$29 million in a heartbeat.

Who's really out there? Take away the restricted guys, and the guys who aren't leaving their teams, ie Pierce, and what do you have? Does Shaq excite you? TMac? Manu's not leaving.

The list narrows to Joe Johnson pretty quick.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

However it sounds like the downside is a more athletic Duhon who can score, and for the MLE thats not too bad.

if the grand prize is lebron, wade, or even joe johnson, the team will require a really good shooter from the pg spot. sessions doesn't seem like that good a shooter. signing sessions may cost the knicks nate and if mo williams can play like an allstar with lebron, so could nate.

well shaq does excite me but that's between me and my therapist.

i'm talking about these outright fa’s:
Joe Johnson
Rip Hamilton

these guys who can opt out:
Amare Stoudamire
LeBron James
Dwayne Wade
Chris Bosh
Dirk Nowitzki
Josh Howard

and these guys who will be rfa's:
Brandon Roy
Rudy Gay
LaMarcus Aldridge
Rajon Rondo

I’d be happy to get 2 out of those 12.

FAs leave for one or more of the following reasons:
To be the guy (Joe Johnson, Al Harrington, TMac, Ariza)
To get more money (Turko, Boozer, Maggette)
To win a title or compete for one (Sheed, McDyess)
Geography... To be anywhere but where they are or closer to some more favorable place (Rashard Lewis, Shaq, Marbury)

So I begs the question... who would come here and why?
Lebron would be a big city bright lights guy (geography)
Bosh would want the hell out of Canada (sorry Bonn)
Rip and Joe Johnson might get more money here or just be ready to move on

feel free to speculate

I think y0ou meant sorry DJ. I haven't lived in Canada for a few years and I would not mind at all if Bosh left the Craptors

my personal opinion is that knicks should seak a REAL SHOT BLOCKING Center, i havent seen Milicic in action yet but if u add sessions, i think this is a complete team in terms of players/positions NOT talent

i would love Camby again for 1 year, or a player thats similiar, we need that player we know that can defend our paint and help shot blocks, causing a chance for fast breaks n the way dantonti needs....

i mean if we add sessions, i personally believe we need a center that is dominant like dwight howard or at least duncan even know.... for a good shot at the finals with our current roster but ill take a rent player just to see where we can stand

can anyone disagree or agree with me with all of the above, its been a a hard 10 years for me as a knick fan and i dont even know if im delusional/desperate from the after effects...

What the hell is going on, why hasnt something tangible happened yet with this Sessions stuff?

But more than likely you guys are going to get what you want and grab this guy. Personally, I think the signing is uneccesary and a gamble I wouldnt like to see us take.

I think he's OK but no big stud. DW isnt going to overpay by so much as penny. He might also be figuring out a Duhon deal if they sign RS. He might want that resolved even before the ink dries on Session's deal

Says the Bucks will only match offers under 3Million a year. Why haven't we offered a 4years/$16million (or something like that) and called it a day?

cause maybe Sessions wants to start at $5.8M over 5 years?

He can want all he wants, but he's not getting it. Walsh would be a fool to offer that.

These players are something else. The market is setting itself. No teams putting up any offers, means your value is low and no one is willing to overpay anymore. Just take the money and play your tail off and try to get more money later. Take the shorter deal and increase your value, while hoping the economy improves down the line. It's the only play they have left.
