Here are some differences from last year that I think will help this years team

1) The Marbury situation/distraction is resolved

2) Q Rich is no longer the leader in the locker room helping to affect a positive culture change.

3) Curry is actually in basketball shape this year

4) The big game is no longer riding our bench cracking jokes while everyone else works hard

5) Gallinari is alot healthier this year and should have a normal rookie season

6) Duhon has to know that his job is on the line and might think twice about reveling in the night life

7) MDA and his staff have stated that we need to take pride in our defense.

8) We have drafted two athletic rookies with upside who play two way basketball further illustrating our commitment to playing both sides of the court.

9) Isiah is no longer with the organization in any capacity

10) We still have Mobley's insured contract to use in a trade with a team looking to shed payroll. This can be a huge chip at the trade deadline.

11) This will be the second year playing in MDA's run and gun for most of the roster.

and a couple of negatives:

1) Rose's veteran presence has not been replaced

2) We are still weak at the SG position and could use upgrades to our starting rotation to be considered a playoff caliber team.

Don't even mention playoffs. We played this game in another thread.

What teams in the East are we possibly better than? Outside of Indiana and the Bucks I'd have a tough time making the argument that we're better than any other team when you match rosters.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Seriously, would you rather be building around Granger and Dunleavy, or Chandler and Gallo?

The Bucks have Jennings and Redd.

Seriously, who has worse players than us?

Orl, Bos, Cle and Atl are the only def playoff teams. Everything after that is muddled.

Everyone thought Toronto was a shoe-in last year... Bargs, Oneil, Bosh, etc. and they were a lottery team. Games are played on the court not on paper.

Knicks have some good players and are well coached. They have areas they can improve on. Look.. I'm not asking for Gallo and Curry to go out and score 30 a night. I do think if we can build on some of the things we did well last year we can win more games and be close to .500 which will probably get you a 7th or 8th seed.

Your original question was - are we a better team this year - and the answer is yes, but we still need some upgrades at several starting positions to be considered a playoff contender. The FA period is ending and the trading period is just beginning in earnest, so I think that the roster is still a work in progress. We didn't have anything but the MLE to play in the FA market, so I'm not surprised that we didn't make a big FA signing. We are however in position to play in the FA market next off season so let's not put the cart before the horse. You just don't go from the outhouse to outer space overnight. If putting together a championship team was easy, then everyone would be able to do it.

To me it's all about development. If Hill, Gallo, Wilson and Douglas show some great development than your future takes a very different turn. If any one or two show star potential everything changes. All the whining disappears. All the pessimism is a thing of the past. But if they stink............oooh boy!
I just hope that people will like me

Jennings and Redd? This is such an example of everything we have sucks and everyone else is great. Jennings stunk, positively STUNK in pro ball overseas. If his name was Bruno Janckovich he would be euro trash plain and simple. Redd??? REDD???? Yes.. he's a heck of a good scorer making max money for never getting on the court.

Yes... too bad we cant boast having an overpaid broken down shooting guard who doesnt guard and a head case who flopped in Europe but will destined for NBA stardom because he was great in the summer league.

Seriously dude

This team will win 47 games. Three reasons:

1. Gallo healthy drops almost 20 ppg

2. Darko swats 3 shots a game

3. Natural growth from last year, happy core.
WE AIN'T NOWHERE WITH THIS BUM CHOKER IN CARMELO. GIVE ME STARKS'S 2-21 ANY DAY OVER THIS LACKLUSTER CLUSTEREFF.

Does Bruno Janckovich have the resume Jennings had comin out of high school? You talk of his Europe experience like Jennings went over there trying to be Mike D'Antoni. He made a mil and stayed involved with the game on a professional level while waiting out the age limit rule. Sounds like a pretty smart kid, not a headcase.

sounds like you have no idea what your talking about. Thats a nice spin on Jennings total failure to have any kind of impact. Its hard to get minutes when your shooting 35%

Headcase? Yes... cursing out team after team for not drafting him because he knows the lower he gets drafted the harder it will be to pay his compton entourage. He's lucky it was a weak draft.

and nobody is building around Dunleavy. He's an overpaid bust. He's 29. Chandler is better than he is right now, and Wilson is 22 and poised to break out.

Granger is a really nice player, and thats exactly what your hoping from Chandler. In fact, both are following very similar paths, at least statistically. Granger was a great CBB player but fell in the draft because of injury problems. Chandler was considered raw but Isiah did a great job seeing a skilled guy who wasnt in a system to really flourish.

When I see Chandler play every night I see Granger potential. He just needs to be more consistant, but at 22 is progressing beautifully. He's right where Granger was at the same age, and I think Chandler has probably shown more at 22 than Granger did.

What other choice did he have mckie? He couldn't get into college. He obviously couldn't get in the NBA at the time. He had no other choice than to go overseas to Europe. Otherwise, he's sitting at home for a year, jerking off, and playing in severely inferior leagues in which he wont develop.

Playing in Europe was the last resort. Not the smart decision. If he had the choice to go to Arizona and to go to Europe, he would have gone to Arizona 10 times out of 10.

I'm not saying that people who fail their SATs are automatically dumb, b/c I do believe otherwise. But him failing it when he had no business doing so doesn't exactly make him look intelligent. If anything, it's an indicator of him not working hard at things that he needs to be working at.

^^ I dont have a beef with him going to Europe. But the plan was to play. He thought of himself as an NBA player already and he was the furthest thing from it. He was a flashy AND-1 guy with no concept of team ball and he stunk over there. He went there to make money (totally fine) and show everyone how good he was (tanked).

a headcase would've tried to pull a Mo Clarrett and take the league to court about their age limit rule.

Jennings took the hand he dealt himself and played it well

I don't either. I was commenting on mck1s comment on how smart it was when it was really his only choice.
