Von Wafer is Joe Crawford with a funnier name.

Wafer had some big games for a playoff team while Crawford was playing in the DL, and then the DL+ (the Knicks).

I'm a bit surprised that he hasn't hooked up with a team so far. Does that mean he has some personality or coachability issues? I though he had some problems a few years ago, but am not sure.

A buyer beware situation, I guess. His size and athleticism at the SG position would be helpful if his decision making improves.

I was at a Houston/Portland playoff game in Houston and every time the ball was headed to Von Wafer behind the arc everyone in the Arena was getting ready to get up on their feet. The guy can stroke it deep and when he's on, he's friggin on.

Nixluva I'm confused..don't bring in a guy who's going to demand PT..so he should aquire second tier players who don't care weather they play or not..

now i see where IT learned his "link himself to every available player to feign activity" routine from.

You have become a gimmick.

Is it worth it? To trade in credibility for attention?

truth hurts?

Its one thing to not agree with Walsh overall plan of 2010 etc..

But when you try to turn every single move like looking at Wafer into a negative thing. You expose yourself at a gimmick who is looking for attention.

so he's both an attention seeker AND a gimmick poster? usually it's one or the other.

I'm pretty sure you can be both. Hard to imagine, but possible.

He is young, cheap, has proven himself valuable to an NBA team and we lack depth at shooting guard. I think it would be a solid signing.

The Game:

It's been a slow summer and I would also like to finally see what squad we go into this season with. That said, I think Donnie's logic in going after Grant Hill and Jason Kidd before a guy like Sessions is that Sessions is young and would be looking for a long term contract AND since he's a RFA if we made him an offer it would tie up our money for the waiting period while we see if Milwaukee matches.

Rumour has it we're offering him 5 years at the MLE and I think Donnie would have preferred giving a guy like Hill a 1 year deal or a guy like Kidd a 2 year deal vs giving Sessions 5.

Not saying it's right or wrong. But you can at least see the logic no?

Spree:

Stealing from Bill Simmons, can't we just refer to Hughes as Larry Hughes' Expiring Contract? Finding minutes for Hughes is priority Z right now. Paying Hughes 13.5 M to split minutes with a Von Wafer type sucks but if we sign someone for $5 and they are better than Hughes, let's just bench Hughes.

He's not a young guy that we're trying to develop.

He's not a star that HAS to get minutes.

I'm not even sure he'd give us a better chance to win than playing Chandler or Wafer anyway so it's not like the Knicks have a tough choice between playing the young potential star vs the wily productive veteran.

Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

Von Wafer is a guy that we shoulda picked up last season instead of Robersuck... at this point he's an afterthought, we already have Hughes & Chandler at the SG positions... u should bring a guy like Wafer in on a veteran's minimum 1 year contract, not on a 2 year guaranteed LLE deal IMHO... not too much to complain about but i don't see the reasoning why we go after him now & not last year.

^ Wafer can log some minutes at the point and adds some accuracy behind the arc

Wafer may be an ok back up 2, but cannot play the point. Poor ball handling, decision making & selfish play don't make for a good PG.

agreed, he is in no way shape or form a suitable backup option at PG, he takes way too many ill advised shots & is not an orchestrator at all... Toney Douglas will fill that role for us this year.
