i tried both Norton (then Symantec after it switched) & McAfee & both are resource hogs... all u really need is a freeware AV application like Avast, a freeware antispam app like Ad Aware, & a Registry Cleaner like CC Cleaner... people just buy into the hype & get the Symantec or McAfee packages cuz it comes all bundled nice & pretty box altogether, but really all they're doing is slowing down their computers by using that junk... much better to download the freeware separately that doesn't eat up all your resources.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Symantec is garbage... it uses up way too many resources & doesn't do any better of a job than the freeware that's available for download... avast & AVG give u daily updates of virus definitions too btw & don't clog up your system like Symantec & McAfee do.

I really hate Symantec. I haven't had much experience with McAfee. I actually used to like Symantec, back when it was Norton Antivirus, but that was over a decade ago.

Besides the things you mention, they really put you through hell with the subscription renewal. Symantec doesn't give a crap about its customers.

The retail version is to slow and loaded with crap.
Get corporate unmanaged Symantec AV V10 from torrent sites.
No need to pay and excellent performance.
And if you have crappy PC with bunch of garbage apps AV will not be able to affect the performance anyways...

I also concur with AVG Free and Malwarebytes. I often use Spybot Search and Destroy after those two since Spybot is pretty good at obliterating nasty things.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.
