The problem is mostly timing. You make think that zach, steph and JC were cast offs, but we had weatherspoon, shannon, and eisley, making the same salary, Nough said.

My point all along was to trade your way out of the abyss, or let the contracts fall off. DW will get you cap room, but really, who's knocking or in some cases (hill kidd) knocking and running.

Timing and luck is everthing in life. You can't get a sentence out MDA without hering the word Luck, and the franchise has none, call it bad karma or whatever. I'm not sold on DW and MDA thus far because they have made some ok moves and some very suspect ones. Someone just pointed out we are probably never going to an elite team..wow..What does that say about your fans and the faith they have. With out lee and nate, We are summer league squad what FA super star will look at that as appealing. I thought those guys were building blocks, what happens if DG doesn't have a major year, or chandler regress, then you screwed..I see why MDA says you need luck.

i don't care how we get that franchise player to build around... draft one, trade for one, sign one up via free agency... just get that foundation piece... we can't build a house w/o a foundation.

TMS,bip allanfan fishmike, n few others..where big fans of the rebuilding the knicks through the draft process..this was right after we loss to the rapts in the playoffs. They argue me down about getting younger and how rebuiling through the draft is the only way to go. Well here we are almost 8+ years later and like I predicted it's been horrendous all the way around. We still haven't gotten a franchise player and the solid drafts that we have gotten in the process have been traded away for vets. Lee and nate are on the verge of bouncing outta here, DG and wilson are no lock.and like I said then, this rebuilding thing thru the draft is the most overated proceedure in the NBA. It takes years for most players to develope a true understanding of how to win, and most young players play for there next big contract, by then there trade bait, and in the process GMs and coaches get fired and franchise become laughing stocks...Boy I wish I could find those threads..but can't say I didn't tell you exactly how it would play out.

8+ yrs??? We just started rebuilding when Walsh came in at the end of 2008.

Rebuilding, retooling, or making moves to go for it all every yr. None of these philosophies on trying to create a contender are wrong. A philosophy is only as good as its execution and decisions made. Rebuilding through the draft doesn't necessarily mean that we are going to draft and keep every player we draft and turn every player drafted into stars and win the title that way, that's not realistic. Rebuilding through the draft is about having the flexibility to make moves to improve your team drastically. Boston Celtics are a prime example. They rebuilt through the draft then cashed in on there picks by making moves for KG & Ray Allen to go along with there past draft picks Pierce and Rondo.

In 2003 the Knicks could have tanked in order to be in the Lebron James sweepstakes. They might have possibly landed Melo, Bosh or Wade. At worst case they could trade there lottery pick for a proven young player that has a few yrs experience that another team doesn't want to pay if they wer to have missed out on any of those 4.

In 2004 we could have tanked to be in the Dwight Howard-Emeka Okafor sweepstakes instead of trading for Marbury. Then at worst case if we lost out we could again trade the pick for a proven young player that has a few yrs experience that another team doesn't want to pay.

In order to win you have to target the Lebron James, Dwight Howard, Dwayne Wade's of the world. Since we messed up by not tanking to draft them. We have to tank in order to try and sign them. If we miss out we still have to flexibility of cap space and young talent to improve the team drastically to our liking.

The minute Ewing was traded the rebuilding started, like TMS said no franchise player no foundation.

Call the process whatever you want its the most dificult thing to do without first having stabilty and after JVG left we've been running through GM's, coaches and players like a rest stop on I95.

excellent point & i think we may have finally established some stability here now that Walsh & MDA were brought on board & seem to have a plan they wanna implement... now we need to get that franchise guy, which is what Donnie's plan has been all along.
