i would just like to point out that cleveland has max cap space next summer too. sure, lebron could leave, but it's just as likely he stays and brings one of the big guns to cleveland too.

2010 is about the Big Five: Lebron, Wade, Dirk, Amare, and Bosh. If we get NONE of them and don't at least use our cap space to make some great trades, then I'll be really disappointed.
The only one that I think is a real possibility is Amare and Nash. Wade already has said he does not want to come to New York. Dirk, well see Jason Kidd. Bosh is going to go wherever Lebron goes.

Not for nothing but the Nets also have room right now to sign two max players.
Not sure where you're getting some of these ideas from. Bosh will go where Lebron goes? What do you mean see Jason Kidd? Are these just random hunches?

The Wade one is true. The rest are hunches. We have no clue what Bosh wants to do.

lol is it me or does the actual quote even SOUND like he's lying,

"Im staying... Of course, I'm staying!"

Sounds like me when I'm trying to convince my friends to go out. "Yo man of COURSE there's gonna be drinks there for less than 10 dollars.. let's just go!"

can you imagine how good the rivalry will be if both the knicks and the nets sign two max FA?

i don't know if Stern cares about the knicks succeeding so much - but if there is a MAJOR rivalry in the largest media market in the country, Stern might be interested.

only thing bosh has said is that he will opt out of his final year and he wants the max - which means 6 years $133 mil. so he either signs with the raptors or is part of a s&t. from what he said, you can assume he will not just sign outright with a team for 5 years.

It's embarrassing that we don't have one concrete block in place or one big time talent on the roster.

Joe Johnson
Ray Allen
Manu Ginobili
Marcus Camby
Tracey McGrady
Shaquille O'Neal
Brad Miller
Stephen Jackson
Jermaine O'Neal
Mike Miller
Rip Hamilton

Yao Ming (owed 17.7 million in 10/11)
Amare Stoudamire (owed 17.7 million in 10/11)
LeBron James (owed 17.2 million in 10/11)
Dwayne Wade (owed 17.0 million in 10/11)
Chris Bosh (owed 17.1 million in 10/11)
Dirk Nowitzki (owed $21.5 million in 10/11)

Josh Howard (owed $11.8 million in 10/11)
Mike Redd (owed $18.3 million in 10/11)
Tyson Chandler (owed $12.8 million in 10/11)

WADE
-Does anyone actually see him leaving Miami, T-Mobile, Gatorade, Converse he is a national star, great weather tax breaks, they can go get Bosh or Amare as well or add a big time talent. New York sucks during the winter, the garden is amazing but the quality of life is better

DIRK
-Is not going any where Cuban will overpay the guy, he just signed Kidd to a three year deal he isn't going anywhere

Essentially what we are looking at is two players

Bosh & Amare (Great Stats but can't carry a team)

Bosh 22.7pts 10rbs 2.5ass 1blk 16 fga 48.7%fg
Lee 16.0pts 11.7rb 2.1ass .3blks 11.7fga 54.9%fg
(Going to get better we know that)

2008-09 Toronto 33 49 .402 4th Atlantic Division
2007-08 Toronto 41 41 .500 2nd Atlantic Division
2006-07 Toronto 47 35 .573 1st Atlantic Division
2005-06 Toronto 27 55 .329 4th Atlantic Division

Amare
21.4pts 8.1rbs 2.0ass 1.1blks 14fga 54%fg

The only guy that has a real shot to switch teams aside from Bosh because he wants to be a star, great player, no defense, lost a lot of explosion, and has already been badly injured twice, not to mention he has a pg that gets him 6-8pts a game. Desire has always been questioned

It's only 3 years now? I thought it was up to 5 years but Wade and Bron both did the 3-year extension to keep their options open last go around.

it might be 5...but whatever the case, he will be passing up an extra $30+ mil if he signed his extension today instead of next summer.

dj can you explain. I thought that the extension is added on to the end of the current contract. So even if he signs one today that he will still get his money from this season and the extension will just begin next season at his max money.

Bosh wants 17 million
Lee gets 8 million

Is he really worth 9 million more than Lee, did Bosh carry his team to the playoffs. Wade got the Heat there, those type of players are worth 17 million.

Mark Cuban is not going to let Dirk go that easy (Opinion). As far as Bosh going where Lebron goes, this has been inside info since they played in the Olympics.

his 5 year extension will begin next season. but if he signs it in the summer, his 6 year extension will begin next season. he can only sign for 5 years max before the end of the current deal, but can sign a 6 year when he's a free agent.

Got ya. This kind of clarify things now. These guys can say all they want about getting to a contender but at the end of the day it is still about that 6th year and max money. Interesting.

Yup. And to top it off, the Cavs are already a contender.

Well, again, this is always a widely reported mistake. Everyone always leaves out the extra year and just says it's 30M more. 5 years or 6 years it's still an entire extra year of salary - not just 30M more over the same time period - of which the detractors want to lead you to believe.

The difference, I believe, is the annual percentage increase in salary. I believe the home team can offer 10.5% raises whereas the new team can only offer 8%? Something like that?

So over 5 years...you lose about 5-6 Million off a max contract. As to the home team or away team - the 6 years versus the 5 years - there is no problem here - for the player is young enough to play 5 years in a new city and then get a brand new 6 year max contract. Add in the big market endorsements and it's a no brainer for LeBron to leave Cleveland, the extra 6th contract year, and the roughly 5-6M lost over 5 equal years of salary - to gain ten fold or more - in endorsements.

He'd make out better leaving for a big market.

Learn it, live it, love it, , for it is the reality of the whole "Oh but CLE can offer him 30M more!!!" No, they can't, they can offer him roughly 5-6M more over the SAME TIME PERIOD, and, cannot in any way shape or form offer the substantial increase in off-the-court royalties from endorsements.

I don't know. Lebron has some pretty big wigs telling him that he doesn't need the NY market to push his product endorsements. When MJ tells you this you may have to sit back and listen. I said it before legacy will do more for Lebron than what city he plays in. He will be looking at the quickest way to get to the Finals at this point of his career and start working on getting championships.

MJ was also found snickering in the corner after that comment whilst trying to protect his own legacy as the games' best.

Also, the city in which Lebron wins championships can certainly help shape his overall legacy.

MJ is just trying to stop the Knicks again. lol When MJ talks you should look at this record after he stopped playing basketball. Would MJ say Lebron needs to stay in Cleveland if the Bobcats were an option for Lebron? Listening to MJ got the Wizards to draft Kwame Brown.
