Barkley averaged over 15 pts and 11.5 rebounds in 97-98 (well past his prime) even in his injury plagued last season 99-00 he averaged 14.5 pts and 10.5 rebounds. He was playing against a lot of the same guys that are the top notch forwards today:

Garnett
Duncan
Webber
Malone

Plus a lot of other guys that are still contributing:

abdur-rahim
Pj Brown
Juwan Howard
etc...

If all these guys can still compete against todays players and Barkley past his prime could compete against them - how do you figure he couldn't play for the knicks?
I'm not a spoon fan, but in all fairness to spoon - he'd average 12 and 10 right now if he had the same amount of minutes barkley had in his last season, period.

Ok - just for the fun of it:

1) The powerforwards barkley was playing against in the west were better then the one Spoon is currently playing again in the east.

2) Spoon is never the focus of a defense.

3) Spoons current per 48 minute average are:
10.2 pts 11.7 rebounds which comes out to:
7.6pts and 7.9 rebs per 36 minutes (starter minutes).

4) Barkley slightly past his prime (96-97) was still good for
19+ pts and 13+ rebs 4+ assists and 48% field goal shooting.

5) He would get minutes not only on the knicks but on any team in the NBA.
