I like Iverson. If he signed cheap, then I don't see a problem. He has all the skills and should average 26 a game in this system assuming he can still run all day.

I liked Allen Iverson. He's a low percentage volume shooter that doesn't play defense. Yeah, yeah, yeah I know. He used to score with ease and he used to play defense. But he doesn't attack the rim the same way he used to and he certainly doesn't play defense anymore. So I know he used to. I also know that everyone loved him in Philadelphia and they improved when he left and Denver got to the WCF after he left and the Pistons only wanted him for his expiring contract.

...And why exactly would we want him averaging 26 a game on the Knicks?? For him to average 26 would mean that he is taking 25+ shots a game. Add that to Harrington, Hughes, and Nate, if he remains, and you don't have much opportunity for anyone else to even get a shot off.

We now have 4 young guys (Chandler, Gallinari, Hill, Douglas) on the team (not including SL pickups or Sene) who need to develop- we don't need a player who continues to be an "it's all about me guy" even as grows older and is not able to do the things he could once do on the court that might make his presence more palatable.

Iverson does not make they guys around him better and is not a veteran we would want schooling our young players on the benefits of unselfishness.

If Iverson comes a knocking on the Knicks door and asks to be let in, even for a chat, Walsh should keep that door shut.

I'm sure Iverson wakes up every morning, looks at his tattoos and says to himself, "Today, it's time to lose!!"

You are right, of course, but does he ever look at those same tattoos and ask himself "Why did Denver do better after I left the team? Is there anything I can change in my game that will help the teams I am on have a better chance to win?

AI is in Al Pacino/Robert DeNiro mode--aka check-cashing mode. AI's weaknes was his perimeter shot and now all he does is jack them up. He used to go all out on defense and now he is content trading shot attempts. He's getting by on his reputation. I'm sure Pacino/DeNiro still have the desire to create great film just like Iverson still loves winning it's just that those days are gone. No one can take away those bullets on their resumes

Except Iverson's only team accomplishment was once making it to the finals (thanks in part to one of the best defensive centers in the history of the game) in an incredibly weak eastern conference on a team that wouldn't make it out of the 2nd round now. The combination of things luckily working out just right (Mutombo in his prime, east being weak) in one season basically bought him a hall-of-fame ticket that he would have never come close to getting under most circumstances.

AI would be HOF even if he never went to the Finals.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

so the possibility of finishing his career in the top 10 in total pts, ppg, steals, ft attempted, ft made and no worse than top 15 across the board despite being one of the smallest guard ever will have nothing to do with it?

There will never, ever be another Allen Iverson. And he's often imitated because he is a first ballot Hall of Famer. I'm sure Penny Hardaway is a first ballot HOF'er too because he and Shaq lost in the Finals too?

If anyone wants to know my feelings on AI of yesteryear, here's my summary on my old blog

I said team accomplishment. He's always put up big individual statistics. Everyone knows that.

Easy to pick on A.I now that he his falling off and on the downside of his career. Get him while the gettin is good. Nobody dared say any of this foolishness when he was putting a garbage Sixers team on his back and killing the league year in and year out.

He's a thug, got ugly tats, cornrows, has a street behavior and mentality, was unprofessional at times...I got all that. Dont take away his HOF career, tho.

I've said the same thing since I first joined here. TMS and I have had the same repetitive AI argument for many years. You can ask him. I never liked his style of play and was more unimpressed by the east that season than impressed by the Sixers.

Fair enough, I just dont see how you can argue against him being in the Hall or being a great player. He was one of the dominant players of his era and completely un-guardable.

Nothing because he wasn't a team player. last time I checked, basketball was a team sport. Iverson is one of the most overrated players of his generation. Bank that.

I second that. I'm pretty sure Walsh agrees.
