Chandler, Curry, Gallinari and Jeffries, are the only players the Knicks are obliged to pay (if all options are picked up, as expected) in 2010-11: $23.6 million in all.

Add Hill's and Douglas' rookie-scale contracts ($3.3 million combined) and that's a $26.9 million cap total, nearly half of the anticipated $50 million-plus cap for that season.

Lee and Robinson would gobble up much of that room, which is why Walsh said his ability to re-sign both likely will depend upon whether he can unload a salary. Although he didn't cite anyone, start with Jeffries and Curry.

Lee wants about 10, Nate about 7 - lets assume that. That means we're committed for 44M of our 50M cap in 2010-2011. Who do we sign for 6M the summer of 2010? Not any max FA I know of....

Can the Knicks afford Lee (at as much as $10 million per season) and/or Robinson (possibly $6-7 million) and occupy precious 2010 cap space they'd like to spend on one or more free agents?

"Yes," Walsh said, "but I don't know what those numbers are going to be yet."

This is how i think we'll be able to sign 2 elite superstars in 2010: Goal is to get rid of Curry and Jeffries contract before mar/2010

Like many of you have said from previous threads, Jeffries will probably get traded for Mike James to Washington. As for Eddie Curry, once he plays regularly and develops a decent game, his stock will go up slightly so we trade him to Sacremento for maybe Kenny Thomas who comes off the books.
Chandler and Gallo both have team options so the knicks do not have to pick up their options. Knicks are in full control on the outcome of those two.

Only players supposedly part of the roster for 2010-2011 if not traded are Douglas and Hill.

Now the knicks can sign 2 elite free-agents.

No one is going to offer anything for nate. He is the worst defender in the league. I bet he signs a QO from the Knicks. Maybe a team will give him 3 years 10 million at the most

meanwhile D Lee's gonna command a 5 year $60 mil deal cuz he's in the running for DPOY? come on dude. Nate's a good young player... maybe not quite as valuable as D Lee but there will be teams out there willing to pay him the MLE at least.

Woodman... Lee and Nate are also a major concern when thinking about 2010. Whether we retain them or S&T them we're going to be chewing up cap space.

Jeffries is moveable. Curry not so much.

Lee and Nate are the big ones I feel. We probably don't want to retain them at their asking price - and - we probably don't want what they fetch in an S&T in terms of 2010-2011 salary and beyond.

It's a tough position.

Curry and Jeffries are the immediate known concern because they indeed are on the books until 2011 - but - we have to consider that Lee and Nate --- or whom they fetch in an S&T -- are also 2011 liabilities (liability when thinking of the 2010 max FA plan).

We're in a tougher spot than I ever thought. I guess those who suggested we needed to deal with Lee and Nate at the Feb 2009 deadline might have been more correct than originally thought.

I trust Donnie will do the right thing but it's not as easy of a situation as once thought.
