If Walsh is looking at a S&T for Lee (or Nate, for that matter), and if we hope to use this maneuver to get a Curry or Rubio from GS and Minny, respectively, how exactly does the process work?

How complicated does it become if a 3rd team is involved?

Do we go to Lee's agent and talk to him about what we are trying to do?

Am I right in assuming that we will have to take back a contract(s) comparable to what Lee gets if we trade him?

Just wondering.

If David Lee wants an average of $10 million per season then the contract would look like this (with max 10.5% raises) for the Knicks :

6 years :

$7,920,795
$8,752,478
$9,584,162
$10,415,845
$11,247,529
$12,079,212
----------------
$60,000,022

5 years :

$8,264,470
$9,132,239
$10,000,009
$10,867,778
$11,735,547
----------------
$50,000,044

For another team it's only a max 8% raise and 5 years so the offer would look like this :
$8,620,690
$9,310,345
$10,000,000
$10,689,656
$11,379,311
---------------
$50,000,002

The math's right but the best I think he'll do is $50 million over 6

Do we have to do the math? 10 mill average over 5-6 years is outrageous!!! I'm not paying him that no way!!! Hope Donnie doesn't do it....all signs point to hell to the no. Donnie ain't screwing with the cap to pay this cat....

On the other hand Donnie is a stand up dude and will work with him and his agent to get him close to that via sign and trade if the Knicks can get someone they need and some expirings...

the most i'd do for dlee is avg 6.5 mil a year. dude is a backup! there was no one else in the FC doing any rebounds - of course he is going to get some boards.

dude had:

no offense
no defense
no leadership

no thanks

King1 was right. Should've extended Lee when it was at a discount if NY wanted to keep him.

Walsh may still get to do a s&t but to whom. All this Rubio for Lee talk is a pipe dream at the moment because there has to be an interest by both parties first.

I don't think there ever was a discount last fall. Lee wanted 10M, his agent wanted 13 or 14M. That hasn't changed. It's not like we passed on a chance to get him for 6M it never existed.

Do we know this for certain about him wanting $10M prior to preseason. I remember he was seeking something aroung $6-$7 million last year. His numbers increased so did his asking amount. I don't it is even reasonable to think that he has elected to stay at the asking price. I'm confident it was the $6 million that king suggested back then and the price just went up with his stats. Donnie hedged wrong. As I been saying Wallace was the guy willing to pay him $9-$10 million. They aren't going to attract superstars, so I can Memphis as Lee's Ace in the Hole. Particularly if they were willing to deal for him last year. No need to S&T for a player when you know that their team isn't willing to go over a certain amount.

Lets let the market determine Lee and Nate's value. Knicks will always have the ability to match offers.

Multiple articles I recall reading prior to the deadline to extend Lee. He wanted 10M his agent said he was worth 13 or 14M per year. There was never any chance to extend him on the cheap that was just the desire of Knick fans same as we wish to sign him cheaply now. He and his agent wanted just what they want now. It hasn't changed. If you guys are asking for links gimme a break.....I know what I read.

I keep saying this, but teams will be unwilling to committ major long term money to the FA's of the 2009 when they know whats available in 2010. I truly think teams will be holding back some of their resources.

I think Lee gets 5/45 from the Knicks - 7, 8, 9, 10, 11

Yeah, I seriously doubt he gets anywhere close to that. If we end up keeping him for somewhere between 40-45 million, I'd be happy. That wouldn't really hurt our cap situation THAT much.

Who's going to even be able to pay 60, including the Knicks? Nobody. He just happened to hit the wrong year.

How much money Lee will potentially lose in endorsements if he will be traded from NY to Mini, Utha, Sack, etc. farmlands?

Well you have got done bashing Lee and saying how bad he is and he is the best player on your team shows you where the organization is. If Biedrins gets 6 yr 60 million and Bogut and Bynum gets 14 million Lee is worth 10 million a year. Eddy Curry make over 12 million a year I guess we will just see what the market brings. If Walsh says 5 years 40 million last year what guys doesnt take that and you dont have to worry about getting hurt or having a bad year. Remember before the season started everyone said Lee couldnt play in this system and after the first 10 games when he had boone spurs everyone was killing him on here and the media. Once he got healthy he had a decent year.

nobody is bashing lee....he's just not worth 10-14 mill a year....who cares what other dudes are making...the Knicks should not over pay anyone just because...there are other alternatives...Jordan Hill and Darko are nice alternatives....

How many guys in the last two drafts have averaged a double-double? I am going to guess not too many. You have market value and if the Knicks lose Lee for nothing that is bad business. If any team loses their best player for nothing then you havent managed things correctly. You wont pay Lee 10 but you will pay Bosh 17 and he hasnt done anything in toronto. If the Knicks dont get Lebron and Wade next year then will the mantra be wait unil 2015

This is where you make a fool out yourself. Bosh led his team to the playoffs two years in a row with far less talent then Lee had surrounding him. Lee isn't in Bosh's universe.
