Summer league thread oughta be official, and sticky. Every year it's the high point of the Knicks season.

LOL. We have a pretty good win % the past few years in it, that's for sure.

Blake Ahearn, 25, settled on the Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks. He will play for those two summer-league teams -- Philadelphia in the Orlando summer league next week and New York in the Las Vegas summer league later this month.

"Philadelphia was last in the NBA in 3-point shooting (31.8 percent) and they're switching to the Princeton offense, (so) they need shooters," Ahearn said.

Ahearn, a 6-foot-2 guard from St. Louis, can provide that. He set an NBA Developmental League record with 143 3-pointers last season for the Dakota Wizards, making 43 percent of his attempts. The NCAA career free-throw accuracy leader, he also led the D-League at 95.2 percent.

The Knicks could be another good situation, Ahearn said, because coach Mike D'Antoni uses the same wide-open offense Dakota has used.

"I think they're both good opportunities for me," said Ahearn, a 2007 MSU graduate.

After accomplishing "about all I can" in the D-League, where he was rookie of the year in 2008 and an all-league selection in 2009, Ahearn said he is eager to catch on full time in the NBA.

Upon meeting Ron Howard for the first time I had to ask him how many jokes has heard about his name.

"Man, there hasn't been a day that has gone by when I haven't been hit with one" he said. "I've heard some pretty good ones over the years too."

Howard went from being an unknown attending open tryouts to becoming a legitimate full-fledged NBA prospect.
He was the last player cut by the Milwaukee Bucks in training camp this past fall, and that made him become more competitive than he thought possible.

"It is a great feeling putting on that uniform for the first time," he said. "The experience of training camp and being part of the team that traveled to China was tremendous. I got a chance to see how to prepare and developed a better understanding of what the coaches are asking me to do."

Howard sat on the bench a lot upon his arrival to Fort Wayne -- but that time learning built character.

"I learned how to become a great teammate and how to be involved in the game even if I'm not on the court," he said.

Howard didn't complain or become a distraction. He just worked harder and kept proving himself every day in practice until he found himself in the starting lineup.

Howard said he wouldn't trade the path he's taken for anything in the world and values the friendships that he has made on this journey. "It's not about how you start but how you finish," he said. "I'm sure that there's a team out there that will recognize what I've done consistently and feel that I'm deserving of a spot on their roster."

PhilinLA - the primary objective of Summer League is to not get hosed by a cab driver on the ride from the airport which is barely walking distance from the strip... and come away with 5 players you can invite to camp in Ocotber

The Answer Man already has his five:

30 Morris Almond G 6-6 225 Feb. 2, 1985 Rice Utah (NBA) 2
23 Toney Douglas G 6-1 200 Mar. 16, 1986 Florida State (NCAA) R
43 Jordan Hill F 6-10 235 Jul. 27, 1987 Arizona (NCAA) R
47 Yaroslav Korolev F 6-10 245 May 7, 1987 Moscow, Russia Dynamo Moscow (Russia) 2
55 Nikoloz Tskitishvili F 7-0 225 Apr. 13, 1983 Georgia (Europe) Fuenlabrada (ACB-Spain) 4

Hopefully, most of it is muscle

Eh, it's always fun when the summer league team wins since the winter league team does so sort of rarely.

David Noel's DL stats were nice (for what that is worth), and his DraftExpress profile was not terrible. Good enough to play at NC. Played a bit with the Bucks but did little. Anyone have any info about the guy?

Is Walsh putting him on the team because he might get invited to the pre-season camp, or is he just filler for the summer team?

Just wondering.

The Answer Man Does Not Miss Quentin Richardson

Q. paladin55 - Is Walsh putting him on the team because he might get invited to the pre-season camp, or is he just filler for the summer team?

A. Unless he can drop 20 pounds, Noel is pure, unadulterated, practice time, layup line, bench jockey filler.
