His life was in some ways a tragedy of classical proportion in terms of his rise and fall, and also tells you what fame, money, power, and sycophants can do to a person's development. Farah Faucett was built on hype, fleeting beauty, a cult TV show, some TV movies, and posters. Jackson was a significant figure in the music and entertainment world for most of his life and had genuine talent and brilliance, despite his tragic flaws as a person.

Both were cultural icons, but their was a large gap in their talent and what they brought to the table.

Just fyi -- cardiac arrest, the duration of which was initially unknown in this case, does not equal death. People that go into cardiac arrest (usually ventricular fibrillation) are resuscitated successfully under ACLS every day. Death is defined neurologically; you can either predict a cessation of brain function from a failure of resuscitation (and, hence, estimate a duration of cerebral anoxia) or empirically demonstrate brain death by the lack of cranial nerve reflexes, spontaneous respirations, unresponsiveness to stimuli in the absence of sedating drugs or hypothermia. You can supplement that with EEG findings, radionuclide brain scans etc (depending on your skepticism of the diagnosis).

You can't be serious. You can applaud him for his musical talents, and I for one grew up on that and enjoyed it, but don't attempt to sweep under the rug his disgraceful side of life. No matter what he has accomplished in life it does not give him a free pass nor remove him from scrutiny of such heinous crimes that ruined the lives of many people permanently.

I'm stepping out of this thread though I have no interest in arguing with someone looking to defend such a person's actions nor am I looking to destroy a thread over it.

On to more important things...the NBA.
