In college, Scalabrine wasn't a slow forward/center. While he wasn't AS explosive as Budinger is, he is not nearly as slow and plodding as he is now.

While Budinger has a slight edge in the athleticism category, the type of game he played in college is very similar to the game that Scalabrine played.

I don't think there is any similarity in their games other than their outside shooting ability. They are entirely different players and part of the reason Buddinger is projected as a lottery pick coming into the league is because of his athleticism. Scalabrine has always played the game right and played for a coach in nj that valued that and made his career. He still is just a second round pick/end of the bench guy who sticks in the league because he is smart and can shoot. He has never been known for his athleticism and has never even appeared to be in shape. Saying guys are the same player based on hair color, the conference they played in and one particular skill is humorous but has no validity.

If I was basing it on hair color, I would have said so. Don't start gettin snippy with me.

We'll see how the players play out, I'm pretty confident I'll be right in the end. Go laugh at that.

i don't really see any similarities between Veal & Budinger other than the fact they're both white & they can both stroke the outside J... Budinger's got some serious hops & he's way more mobile than Veal IMO

Unlike most of the knowledgeable posters, I judge players on their name, and Chase Budinger to me sounds a lot like another player we drafted whose name concerned me:

Channing Frye.

Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James- those names sound like winners.

Channing Frye? Chase Budinger? They sound like guys at the end of your bench on the way out of the league.

Yes- highly superficial!

I understand exactly where you are coming from because I do the same thing with NFL players when they are getting drafted. Mostly with skill positions like WR & RB.

Does anyone know what is going on with Buddinger? NBAdraftnet has him going at 11 to NJ, Hahn doesn't have him in the first round, and DraftExpress has him going at 24.

I like him but I don't see the Knicks looking to acquire him. That would be a good pick up for the Nets at 11.

i think he's a hard guy to peg in this draft, cuz he can shoot the lights out & he's got such great size & athletic ability at the SG position, but there are other guys who play the same position like Derozan who have much bigger upsides than him as a physical specimen, & then there are better shooters like Curry & Harden out there that are more accomplished players at the collegiate level... i'm guessing he goes somewhere in the low to mid teens.

Not sure if you saw this, TMS, but apparently DeRonzan did not wow folks as much with his athletic ability in certain areas, particularly lateral quickness, at last week's workouts.

Compare his numbers with the "unathletic" James Harden and you will be surprised.

That's an interesting find. Strictly by the workout numbers, Harden does look more athletic than DeRozan.

I got a lot of respecet for Scalabrine.....its not his fault he was born a fat, stubby Irish Drunk. He's still a very smart, and clutch player.

Chase reminds me of luke jackson....except I think Luke had the desire to play but was just hurt.....I don't even think chase likes to play basketball.

i don't care what the numbers say, anyone who watched them play each other last year will tell u Derozan's way more explosive & more athletic on the basketball court than Harden.

James Harden is about as athletic as a guy you will find at the Y.

I guess that's why he has a 35" verticle and sprinter faster than most at the combine and has just as high a max verticle reach as Blake Griffin.

Blake Griffin is so much more of an athlete than Harden it's not even funny... the numbers don't tell the story on Harden... it's 1 thing to jump high & do sprint drills during combines, it's another to outrun everyone else on the basketball court on a fastbreak & when u have the ball in your hands & need to get by the man guarding you, especially late in games when stamina & conditioning play a huge part in performance.

I'm not disagreeing. I know Blake is superior. I'm just saying Harden is better than what you're saying.

But like I said, I haven't really seen him much, so if you have seen him and feel his conditioning isn't good, then I'd go by that.

When you watch Harden play, he uses 0 athleticism

nyk is right... he's much more Sam Cassell in how he moves around on the floor than he is Michael Jordan... i'm not saying he's a bad player, but explosiveness & athleticism is not what he's known for.

I'm not saying I don't want him, but man after watching him **** the bed at the end of the year and then seeing this results of his camps it's pretty evident that he has athleticism that he chooses to never use instead he seems intent on chucking 3's. I have no need for low-motor players.

I'm not saying I don't want him, but definitely not with a Top 10 pick.

they need to have these guys run laps for a while before testing them on how high they jump, etc... the numbers u get at full rest doesn't mean you're gonna get the same results after playing 30 minutes of basketball

right, but they're all at full rest so the playing field is level. though i agree that it would be interesting to see after some fatigue-- maybe the drop offs would be more indicative of..idk, something worthwhile.
