Err... D'Antoni's 7 second philosophy maybe? I'm reaching.

I sure don't envy Walsh's mighty task of making this club a haven for winning basketball.

It is 100% clear beyond a shadow of a doubt that the following will happen:
(a) if the Cavs lose the series against the Magic, Lebron will orchestrate a sign and trade with the Memphis Grizzlies. He will still get paid a max contract.
(b) if the Cavs make it to the finals but lose in the finals, Lebron will sign with the Lakers for the league minimum.
(c) if the Cavs win the championship this year, he will have achieved everything he needs to in the NBA in America. He will then team up with Maciej Lampe on Khimki Moscow Oblast Region Basketball Club to carry the club to the top of the Russia Super League and the Euroleague to prove he can dominate another continent. Starting and then dominating a league in Afghanistan is in his long-term plans.

the fact that 1 of the cornerstone franchises of the NBA is irrelevant is a reason in itself for Lebron to consider coming here... these superstars have huge egos, & coming to NY & reviving this franchise should appeal to a guy like Lebron... u can already see how much he eats up all the media hype & craves the attention he gets as it is... if he came to NY the media circus would be unreal & he'd love every minute of it.

Those are not basketball reasons, TMS. Those are hype, ego, advertising and media.

I thought TMS had a good point. Can you define "basketball reasons" so I can understand what you mean?

reviving 1 of the NBA's cornerstone franchises & trying to bring a title to NYC isn't a basketball reason?

I'm trying to think of one basketball reason Lebron would want to stay in Cleveland for.

Well, one reason would be to finish what he started. It's his team, and his teammates and coach.
He has a relationship with them. Whether or not that will be enough to keep him there remains to be seen.
If he leaves, the question will be will he go somewhere where he'll have a good chance of winning basketball games (S.A., Dallas, etc.) or go somewhere for other reasons.

BTW, let's also throw Boston into the mix.
Ray Allen will be coming off the cap, and KG and Pierce will still be there.

If the Cavs DON'T get to the NBA Finals can you honestly say that Cleveland will be looking to add a 6'6 shooting guard, with an excellent handle, to run with Mo Williams and relieve Lebron of ball-handling responsibility.

Delonte West is better off the bench.

agree.

wonder if the Warriors are still willing to pay Steve Jax 40 mill over the next 4 years. It'd be real hard to key in on Lebron with SJax out there with him and defensively he can guard 4 positions.

Ben Wallace has a huge expiring deal to get it done with

He's got his hands full reviving his hometown franchise.

What would you rather be known for: reviving an Ohio NBA franchise or reviving the New York Knicks? I'm just playing Devil's advocate because I have no idea what he's thinking.

Cavs can pay him the most.

Is he going to leave the extra year with the guaranteed $20,000,000-plus on the table to revive a franchise in a state he isn't even from?

I was basing 'basketball reasons' according to Panos' definition.

Fact: The Cleveland Cavaliers are just two players away from being a potential dynasty.

Mo Williams, Toney Douglas in the second round with 46th selection in 2009 draft

Young, 6'6 Guard with handle in the first round - Marcus Thornton of LSU might work in the first round

Wise

Starting Replacement Forward for Anderson Varejao, who goes to the bench, 2011 pick or a Danny Ferry move

Big Z, with Marcus Camby as backup.

if he can make that up in endorsement & licensing deals, why not? none of us know what Lebron's plans are & there are reasons for him to want to stay & for him to want to leave... Lebron's probably laughing his arse off at all the people who think they know what he's gonna already do before he even does.

how much more rich can they make him endorsement wise. He got 90 mill from Nike before ever playing an NBA game

Also of note, endorsement deals don't come guaranteed regardless of what happens to the athlete like an NBA contract does
