i always thought that steroids or hgh are counter-productive for sports such as basketball, where agility, change of direction, and explosiveness are more important than raw power.

amphetamines, or other stimulants, seem dangerous to use when running around for a basketball game. something about heart rate and what not.

edit: forgot to close the post up-- i think that the above reasons make the use of performance enhancing drugs pretty rare in the nba. am i wrong?

dude, all PED's are dangerous doesn't mean athlete's won't use them to gain an edge... PED's aren't only used to gain mass & bulk up... they can improve strength, speed up recovery time from injuries, help to rebuild damaged muscle tissue quicker, help you jump higher & run faster (remember Ben Johnson?)... u don't think NBA stars would be interested in something that can increase your performance this way?

The Spurs helped to kill the league. They were just dreadful to watch. Tim Duncan is the most boring superstar I have ever seen in any sport. The Nets werent much fun, Pistons, the dominant Lakers teams from a few years ago were just too dominant, nobody had a shot. The product wasnt very good, and it allowed for the stigmas of the NBA (greedy players, too black, thugs) to grow.

The talent level right now has improved drastically. The players are jumping through the screen. Great finishes, great play, and they are playing real hard and intense. Just way more fun to watch, and the NBA will benefit greatly as HDTV continues to develop.

The Refs seem to dictate these playoffs more then anything, there have been some blaten miss calls, or just flat out ridiculous calls. Im not sure why that hasn't become a major topic.

TMS, if I'm reading the official documentation correctly, the information on the like you provided is incorrect.

Section 6. Random Testing.
(a) In addition to the testing procedures set forth in Section 5 above, a player shall be required to undergo testing for Prohibited Substances at any time, without prior notice to the player, no more than four (4) times each Season. The scheduling of testing and collection of urine samples will be conducted according to a random player selection procedure by a third-party organization, and neither the NBA, the Players Association, any Team or any player will have any involvement in selecting the players to be tested or will receive prior notice of the testing schedule; provided, however, that it shall not be a violation of the foregoing for the third-party organization (or a specimen collector for the same) to provide advance notice of a scheduled collection to an NBA Team Security Representative, so long as such notice does not identify the player(s) who will be tested and seeks merely to facilitate access of the collector to the testing location.

WASP? news flash, there hasn't been many true WASPs for several generations. you're talking about a non-existent entity here, buddy. i know it must suck for me to break it to you like this.

briggs, 20 year min? that has nothing to do with why fans are turned off nor does it have anything to do with the quality. i feel that the age limits are in place for one reason only and that is to uphold the ncaa product line.

tattoos and rampant amoral behavior is the problem. who the heck wants to turn on a tv and see a person with 205820938520385209385203958209385 inks on their body? a few tasteful ones are much easier to take.

so u tune into the nba to see what's on dude's bodies? how about u actually look past that and see the game being played. not saying that the quality of nba games is so great these days (although ths yr's playoffs have been the best in some time), but its hard to have a serious discussion w someone who thinks that focusing on what the players have inked on their bodies is more important than the game they are playing.

I occasionally listen to WFAN in the mornings & late nights but there's not enough basketball talk on it for me these days. WFAN is much more of a baseball/football station. I'm finding myself listening to 1050 because they have much more NBA playoffs coverage. Mike & Mike bring on some good guests and have decent discussions about the playoffs. Carton & Boomer would sooner talk about NHL (which I don't follow) than they would NBA.

If the Knicks were a playoff team, I believe there would be much more coverage on WFAN than it does now. I think Mark Sanchez -- who hasn't even played one professional game -- gets more burn on that station these days than LeBron James, simply because Sanchez is a New York Jet. ESPN Radio is part of the network showing NBA playoff games, so they have more to gain by keeping it in the conversation.

Hahaha... ugh! That is one of the worst. Remember the more innocent days of Camby's ugly Chinese characters? It's pretty wild how popular neck tattoos have gotten. Hardened criminals & sailors didn't even used to get them unless they filled up everywhere else! Now you see young mothers on the M14 bus with them. Not my cup of tea, but I'm not going to be an old man about it. Whenever I see an athlete with one I think, "well, that guy doesn't care about a future career in broadcasting." But you never know, in 15 years it may seem not so crazy. And then there are some people who seem to rock the look. Mike Tyson's face tat suits him... same with that dude from Project Runway who had the huge neck tat of his kids' name. Uh... did I just mention Project Runway in a Knicks forum post? I hope I don't get banned...

it would seem to be the case, tho it may have been based off an earlier testing policy, who knows? i don't like posting inaccurate info so thanks for the correction... still, reading through the entire SPED testing & penalties section on this link, it still seems like the NBA has the least strict testing & penalties policy when it comes to PEDs out of all 3 of the major sports in this country. The NBA penalizes players 10 games for the 1st positive test, 25 games for the second violation, a 1 year suspension for a third & a minimum 2 year suspension for a 4th, but those players can still reapply for reinstatement a-la Chris Anderson.

The new MLB drug policy is 50 games suspension for the first positive drug test, 100 games suspension for the second positive test and a life time ban from the sport for a third positive drug test w/o the possibility of reinstatement... in the NFL at least 10 players from each team is tested every week for PEDs & suspends players four games (basically 1/4 of the season) for a failed steroids test w/a second offense resulting in a year's suspension... even with those more stringent penalties & testing schedules in the other 2 sports, u still see PEDs as a rampant problem all around the league... i still believe that anyone who thinks there aren't some major stars in the NBA doing the stuff to gain an edge is being very naive.

The tat talk is borderline homosexual, and has no relevance other than people wanting to find something to hate on NBA players about.
