true. but memphis does have gasol so he would have another spaniard team mate there.

we'd have to get some kind of indication that he demands to come to ny.

does anyone know if there has there been any yet?

reminder partially via kby...

the big thing with rubio is that rubio has a $8 mil (?) buyout and an nba team can only cover $500K.

the hope is a better endorsement deal with nike could cover the rest because they want him in the nba over europe.

this could be something that could help him push for ny.

the other thing is i think he can drop out of the draft still (?)

Yup. This is Rubio's leverage and his debt. He NEEDS a big market to cover the buyout. Scratch Memphis out.

It also should be noted that Rubio's buyout reportedly goes up next year.

Really? That's doesn't seem to make sense.

Why are NBA teams only allowed to pay a half a million to buy someone out?

cause that would give big market bigs too much of an advantage and *MAY* be a way to sneak money to players indirectly.

How so? Like the Knicks say they are going to buy Rubio out, but sneakily get a shoe company to pay his buyout or something, while saying they're going to pay Jason Kidd a small amount, when they're really paying him that plus what should have been the buyout money?

interesting.

so maybe rubio just drops if memphis determines he doesn't want to play for them.

interesting thing is it isn't until you get to golden state at 7 where you see a big enough market for rubio.

the rest are amongst the smallest in the nba.

actually, he would be perfect for the warriors.

i could definitely seeing us moving up anywhere from 2-6 to get rubio.

I have no idea what you are saying. It's the same thing as a salary cap per team. If there was no salary cap, teams like NY, LA, CHI would have advantage over Grizz, Bobcats, Raps, Bucks, etc. You understand that concept I think. If there were no buyout rules, 1) what teams could afford, say, a $15M buyout? and 2) wouldn't that be considered part of the overall "salary cap"?

why would the Knicks need to move up while Rubio could force a downward movement TO the Knicks.

I guess Golden State could be the team that throws a wrench into the whole thing, but they are a messed up team with a messed up management. And they got JCraw, Monta Ellis, Marco Belini and Marcus Williams should be breaking out any time soon.

LOL.

Yeah, I see GS as a problem. Don Nelson has more power there then over and we know what he thinks about PGs like Rubio.. I could see them being a problem in this ordeal.

If Memphis draft Rubio and has Mayo at the 2, Gay at the 3, sign an offer sheet to Lee and Gasol that is a playoff team. The Knicks need to trade down with the and get the timberwolves extra pick or bulls extra pick somehow

Rubio can just stay put.

Do a deal with the Wiz.

What do they need and what can we give them.

What a about resigned Nate, a secnod round pick and our 8 for thelr 5? Need some backups, we got backups! Ok, sub Nate for Lee and it gets it done. They still get a good player at the 8.

Rubio gotta be there when they pick.

Memphis goes for Thabeet.

That can only happen after the draft and the players accept to do the sign-and-trade, all big ifs. So we probably won't see the Knicks making a draft day deal unless it includes others like Chandler or Gallinari.

didn't we already try & get a deal done w/MEM last year to move up in the draft only to have Lee's agent practically nix the trade by saying he wouldn't sign w/them longterm?

Yes.

But let's be serious. Rubio is going to be better then freeking Conley. In fact, he already is. No way they pass him up to take David ****ing Lee and keep Mike Conley.

You would be trading Rubio for Lee (Sign and trade- that's how it works- right?) and our #8, which could be Curry, Lawson, Holiday, or whomever.
