this guy can play, plus his rookie year numbers weren't horrible...definitely worth a look...As a rookie, averaged 4.6 points and 2.1 rebounds in 10.7 minutes in 21 games, all with Phoenix

Those numbers are horrible

he was like 18 years old...and the numbers are almost identical to J. O'neal's rookie year

WE AIN'T NOWHERE WITH THIS BUM CHOKER IN CARMELO. GIVE ME STARKS'S 2-21 ANY DAY OVER THIS LACKLUSTER CLUSTEREFF.

Actually - more boards in less minutes than our own Gallo!

I dont get your point. J' Oneal's rookie numbers were horrible but he soon began to develop. Its not as if the league gave up on Lampe after one year. Lamp Post never improved at all.

J. O spent the first 4 years of his career averaging about 4 points and 2 rebounds on 10 minutes...Lampe barely had 3 years in the league.

just saying he is still 24 and impressing overseas, why not worth a look? obviously this won't happen, purely hypothetical

Why not I guess...but D'Antoni had him in PHO and may not like him.

Can't know that, D'antoni might like him... he was buried on the bench in Phoenix though.

why? whats wrong with looking at a guy who is 24, putting up good numbers goes 6'11 can handle, shoot, play inside and has a mean streak?

Most of us where gushing over what he showed in the summer leagues, and I believe he won first team in the denver rocky mountain league that summer. Then he comes to the Chaney/Layden Knicks followed by Isiah who covets white euro guys almost as much as Briggs does.

We wants to play in the NBA, and he's at the right age for a big man with his skills to be maturing.

We going to play Lee at center again?

Lets bring Frederick Weis back too

Fair enough, but I think O'Neal's early struggles were almost completely related to Portland being stacked, rather than his perceived lack of ability. Lamp Post was about ability.

I would bring him in for the summer, but I'm not giving him anything guaranteed.

Can teams offer a 3 year deal with a team option for the second year? If so that may be the way to go.

Option year has to be the last year of the contract.

then you havent followed his career and dont know anything more than what you see on his NBA.com bio page

he's become one of Europes better big men, and just got a contract extension after 2 years of high level play. He's 24. This isnt a scrap heap guy. This is trying to get one of Europe's better young bigmen to come over here. Thats going to take some kind of buyout and a 3 year deal. I dont think your aware that he's become a very good player over there. This isnt Chris Taft we are talking about

Doesn't he play Gallo's position? Not sure there's a fit for him.
No... Lampe is bigger than Gallo. Lamp is 6'11 260. He's a high post center type player. Like a Brad Miller with good shooting and passing skills.

And seb, nobody is saying throw $10mm and see if he sticks. He's getting paid well in Europe and thats the same league Sabonis came from. If they havent scouted him go over the tape of every game, shouldnt be too hard. My gut feeling is he wasnt ready for the NBA and the culture change, screwed around and got serious about basketball. He's 24 years old.

We are talking about giving him draftpick money here... rookie contract. About half the MLE for 3 years so if he's good he's ours (bird rights).

Its just a thought... not exactly like there is a derth of bigs out there to be had. This makes cost sense for us and has high upside.

good post fish.. I agree, not a bad idea at all.

Yes, he is the future core of our team. This is the type of talent we can build around.

Everyone wants to be sarcastic but I'm down with Fishmike.....

I'd wanna add that Lampe was extreamly overconfident when he got into the league. He had real skills....and he spoke perfect english. It was his dream to play in the NBA.

To comment on his game, he actually dominated in summer league and played well in pre-season for Pheonix. Why he's not in the NBa? Maybe he has a bad agent that didn't know how to play the NBA market and over valued his client? Possible...

I'd love to get him back. I give the guy nuff respect cuz he was humbled by the respect the fans gave him at the draft. Whenever he was interviewed while with other teams he always gave us NYC'ers respect and wanted to succeed for us.

I'd love to get him back off of that respect factor alone.....but like I said he had good offensive skills and rebounded well....he's not a ***** either. I'm down to bring our boy back.
