I walked by the Atlantic yards area yesterday - It's going to suck for my neighborhood- It's going to turn blocks and blocks of nice brownstones permanently in the shade and create tons of congestion. Not looking forward to it.

True, its gonna be a nightmare come game night..But if you live only a few blocks away..Tell me it won't be nice to walk to a few games a year...Or even concerts...

I'm a fan of all the NY teams in all the sports at all levels, and all the Jersey teams.

I'm a fan of all the sports teams around the world, and I hope they all win.

he who proclaims himself a fan of all teams is in reality a fan of none.

It won't be nice! It won't be nice! It won't be nice!
If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

Just for the sake of reference.

HERE is the site of the proposed arena - which doesn't exist yet.

i hate the idea of another New York NBA franchise... i know LA has it, & to me the Nets will always be the Clippers of the NY area... Knicks are always gonna command the backpages i don't care how good of a team the Nets have just like the Yankees & Giants do.

Agreed. Fuck the Nets and and **** Brooklyn. The best Brooklyn has given to NY basketball this decade is Stephon Marbury. They should be ashamed.

You were careful to insert the words 'this decade', so you wouldn't have to mention that Michael Jordan is from Brooklyn.

like what k22 said...

when they break ground maybe i'll believe it.

very tough to build big projects like that today (a lot of times for good reasons, thankfully). the opposition is not going to just give up so easily, hence why since the attempt to build Westway pretty much nothing using eminent domain has succeeded in being built.

and now with the negative press about the new yankee stadium that could be an additional block against new stadiums, which aren't shown to be correlated to economic growth/health for cities either.

Ratner: Atlantic Yards To Break Ground This Year

May 16, 2009

Developer Bruce Ratner says he is confident ground will be broken this year on the proposed Nets arena in Brooklyn, as his controversial Atlantic Yards project cleared another hurdle Friday.

A panel of four appellate judges ruled unanimously the state can use eminent domain to go forward with the project because of the public benefits associated with the plan.

...

Ratner says he expects the new home for the Nets will be ready for the 2011-2012 season.

The controversial Atlantic Yards project development plan in Brooklyn is moving forward against the wishes of many residents and businesses.

Developer Forest City Ratner announced plans to break ground in December.

The Atlantic Yards redevelopment project has been the subject of a lot of debate, but it is now finally the subject of some construction.

The first stages of construction began Tuesday.

Construction of the new arena for the NBA's Nets is scheduled to begin in the fall.

PACB Gives Atlantic Yards Green Light

December 20, 2006

After hours of delays, the $4 billion Atlantic Yards project was finally given the go-ahead by a key state board Wednesday.

Republicans, Governor George Pataki and State Senate Majority leader Joe Bruno, control two of the three votes on the Public Authorities Control Board. Both were known supporters of the plan.

...

Developers say work on the stadium and the buildings should begin next fall, ending in 2010.

Three daily newspapers came away with three different stories after talking to sports baron and blight maven.

The NY Post had Ratner saying he'd break ground on Atlantic Yards in September.

The New York Daily News had him saying "this summer."

And the New York Times had him saying "this October."

...

It was September 2008 when Bruce Ratner told the New York Times he'd break ground in December 2008.

Guys, don't confuse the past with the future.

If the team builds a base of players and wins its gonna be differnt. The Brooklyn thing will have a certain cool to it.

Brooklyn has much of an impact publicity wise as NYC so if the NEts come to brooklyn and play good basketball, they will be recognize.

That would put pressure on the NY knicks to put a fine product on the MSG floor.

If I were dolan and the nEts thing in brooklyn is for real, I'd be worried..
