regardless of what folks feel about steph and his affect on the knicks (fans, especially), russell may be right.

he was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder this year, which is pretty serious, as that espn report had indicated.x

a professional mental health worker would not diagnose someone with something like that unless they met the proper criteria.

thanks for posting those, pres. Steph: " he told me yeah you’re a mess basically."

very telling when he talks about coming in to this season: "i was coming to dominate. I didn’t care who it was, i was coming to dominate." Kind of sums up his bball problem, doesn’t it? i'm sure the last thing that mda was looking forward to was starbury "dominating."

Most here may not want to be honest but let's face it...MDA did his share of screwing with the guy's head as well...Marbs puts up a front of being a strong non-caring individual but this just isn't the case...

that must mean he was of sound mind when he was playing a major role in flushing this team down the toilet over the time he was here before this season... that's even more disturbring... all this time i always thought he was just 1 crazy unbalanced sumbitch with manic depressive tendencies.

Finally someone willing to speak the truth. It takes a guy of Bill Russell's stature to point out the obvious truth that you all don't want to hear. The Knicks have seriously damaged Marbury, perhaps beyond repair.

Maybe it started in his first year here, when he was empowered to make employment decisions - like deciding who the coach is, what players stay, and who MSG hires.

Maybe it happened because he was best buddies with the General Manager of the team and received preferential treatment. These things can't have done him any good. They just might just possibly have led to delusions of grandeur on Steph's part.

When the illusion was shattered and the reality of his declining skills and inability to contribute consistently to the team were revealed, Marbury presumably suffered a break down - a traumatic experience indeed.

I wonder if anyone ever checked out Don Chaney, Lenny Wilkens, Larry Brown or Anucha Sanders for PTSD.

Russell is partially right but totally ignores Marbury's past history. The ultimate team guy defending a guy who had all alone written on his sneakers, got his coach (John Calipari) fired, had his family members reak havoc in NJ and later to a lesser extent in NY. Russell totally ignores the malformed ego of Marbury that did not allow him to be a team player, relate to teammates or win. Marbury had a horrible 07-08 and I think the damage Russell refers to was done then. His mentor/coach who gave him the run of the team turned on him and his father died. I think both of those relationships were especially important to Marbury. In addition Marbury was made to be a villian while in NY. I am not a fan of his and I am very glad to see him gone. However, the guy Isiah brought in was flawed and never made his teammates better. He never accepted a lesser role and the problems were always someone else's fault. Marbury never had a relationship with his teammates and was never a leader.

The correct way to see this is that both sides fudged up with the other. Only NY did the last one and now they are the bad guys. When isn't NY the bad guy anyway? Zzzzzzz

Im not defending him here, but how do you resort to a lesser role when - offensively- your the best player on the team. Lot people kill bury more then Layden and IT. Ewing for all he did was as selfish as anyone you want to put in the catagory, at the end of his tenure.

I don't think bury has fully recovered from the death of his farther more so then anything.

I agree with Russell. That being said, it's time to stop acting like jilted ex boyfried and move on. I am rooting for Celtics cause I want to see Marbury do well.

Too many want to rip the messenger in this case. Russell has forgotten more basketball than most will ever know. The Knicks don't have a "cause" any longer as it concerns Marbury. Don't be the jilted ex.

as true knick fans, the only emotion we can feel towards marbury is that of hatred. we must hate our enemies.

i bet you were chanting mvp for kobe this year, too.

jesus, what kind of times do we live in?

back in my day, fans had heart, fans had love and emotion towards their home club.
